About this Collectable
The Volkswagen T2, from the time when campervans still had a cuddly appearance and could be parked in a normal parking space. That being said, the current VW campervan is, of course, still a campervan with "normal" dimensions compared to the enormous machines like an Adria based on a Transit or Ducato.
The very first T1 model, with its windshield featuring a metal bar in the middle, the split-wing van or the Microbus/Transporter, was produced between March 8, 1950, and the end of 1967. The second-generation Type 2 was introduced in 1967. Several versions of the T2 were also produced. Type 2s from between 1972 and the early 1980s were designated the T2b and are recognizable by the turn signals below the windshield. The Type 2 was available in several distinctive versions, for example, as a windowless van with furniture in the rear, a raised roof, a pickup truck, and of course, as a campervan (sometimes converted into one), as offered here. The Brazilian T2 was produced there as a unique model with a water-cooled engine from 1996 onwards. Production in Brazil eventually had to be halted due to safety and emissions regulations.
Although production in Germany ceased in 1979, it continued in Brazil until 2013. This T2 was also produced there and remains. This T2 began its life as a passenger van and was auctioned off by the Brazilian government in 2016. According to the description and photos, the T2 was in good condition. The T2 was subsequently restored, partially painted orange (originally all white), and converted into a campervan by the Maria Bonita garage in Brazil. As can be seen in the photos, this was done neatly and professionally. The campervan is equipped with the usual accessories and also has a retractable (!) TV screen and a roof rack.
Our opinion
A piece of nostalgia that you can actually use. Many people buy a classic car and, after driving around the block three times, don't really know what to do with it. A T2 Camper invites you to hit the road. No matter where you're going, just hop in and drive. You always have a place to sleep, and with this size camper, you can go anywhere. There's no need to be in a hurry, but for unwinding, it's the perfect hobby car! A car you don't have to worry about; just hop in, drive, and enjoy!
About the seller
The current owner bought the car for his wife, who is crazy about Volkswagen vans. Her other T2 is currently being restored, so they bought this van before summer so they could still enjoy it. Since the restoration was completed in the spring, this camper is ready to go to a new enthusiast.
