How to Sell Your Collectable Successfully
Want to sell your special car but not sure if it qualifies as a Collectable? Submit it here and we’ll get back to you within 24 hours. If we then decide together that our platform is a suitable way to offer your Collectable, we’ll proceed with the steps below.
The seller pays a small contribution to marketing costs. Only the buyer (with the highest and winning bid) pays a small commission.
Information form
We ask you to provide as much relevant information about your Collectable as possible so we can create a tailored and honest description. The form takes about 30 minutes to complete online. If preferred, we can schedule an intake call and go through it together.
Minimum sales price (‘reserve’)
Together, we will determine the minimum sales price — the so-called ‘reserve’. As the owner, you’ll likely have a perception of your Collectable's value. However, we recommend not basing this entirely on the asking prices of similar cars in advertisements.
Photos
To provide potential buyers with a complete and honest image of your Collectable, we will connect you with a professional automotive photographer. The photographer will schedule a photo session with you, which will result in approximately 150 to 200 photos. The photos will be your property, and we will use them for the auction listing. We work with freelance photographers throughout the Netherlands who can do this professionally. The cost is approximately 300 EUR including VAT. Short videos (such as a cold start, drive-by, etc.) are also recommended.
Video
Want to ensure your Collectable gets a lot of attention? We can have a video review made by a car journalist, for example via Autoblog.nl or AutoRai.nl — two of the largest Dutch automotive platforms. These videos typically generate tens of thousands of targeted views. Contact us to discuss the options and pricing.
Auction agreement
We’ll ask you to digitally sign our auction agreement. This ensures both parties have a clear understanding of their roles and expectations. No surprises.
Auction
Together we decide when your Collectable goes online. The auction runs for a maximum of 2 weeks. We always make sure that at least one weekend falls within this period, so interested buyers have the chance to view the car in person.
During the auction, potential buyers can ask questions via email, phone or the forum. Where possible, we’ll answer on your behalf. For specific questions, we’ll ask you to be reachable and respond quickly.
Your Collectable remains in your possession during the auction. This means zero risk. However, we do ask that you limit driving the car to no more than 100 km during this period to avoid any damage.
External listings of your Collectable
We will also list your car on automotive platforms like AutoScout and AutoTrader. In addition, we use social media (such as Facebook and Instagram) to ensure your Collectable gets maximum exposure.
Viewings and inspections
In some cases (around 1 in 10 cars), an interested buyer may want to see the car in person or carry out an independent inspection by an external party. Such events take place by appointment only, and preferably under the supervision of The Collectables — always with your prior approval. We pre-screen potential buyers and verify their identity and contact details (name and address), so you know exactly who you are dealing with.
As an alternative, we can arrange a video call during which you show your Collectable live to the interested buyer.
Sold! Now what?
The highest bidder wins the auction, provided your minimum sales price has been met. If not, we’ll mediate between you and the highest bidder(s) to try and reach a deal after the auction.
Once the commission has been paid, we will put buyer and seller in touch to finalise the transaction. We’ll provide a few practical tips to ensure everything goes smoothly, safely and pleasantly.
