We don't have to explain anything more about the Porsche 911. Special models, on the other hand, are still worth delving into a little further. Everyone knows the famous 911 Carrera 2.7 from 1973, which laid the foundation for basically all (modern) competition Porsches. After the G-model (with the impact bumpers) was introduced, about 1600 2.7 Carreras were made with the real 2.7 MFi Carrera engine with 210 hp. For the 1976 model year, Porsche introduced the Carrera 3.0 with wide rear flanks and optional rear spoiler and was delivered in all markets except North America. The Carrera 3.0 was equipped with a variant of the 2994 cc engine of the 930 Turbo (but without the turbo). The engine produced 200 hp as opposed to the 210 hp of the previous Carrera 2.7 MFI model. The crankcase and gearbox housing were now made of aluminum instead of magnesium and therefore much more reliable. The new engine, which had larger intake and exhaust valves, produced more torque, allowing the Carrera 3.0 to achieve the same performance as the previous Carrera 2.7. A seriously fast car, which reached around 240kmh and was barely heavier than the Carrera 2.7. Only 2566 Coupés were produced, making it a rare car, especially as an original Dutch-delivered example that will be auctioned next week.
