About this Collectable
A lightweight convertible with a mid-engine—it doesn't get much more fun than that. The 986 and 987 Boxsters were already exceptionally well-balanced sports cars, and with the 981, Porsche improved on this formula even further. Weighing in at 1,325 kg, the 981 Boxster S is one of the lightest modern Porsches, making it one of the most fun, as it's a purebred sports car that truly shines in the corners. The roof opens (in just 9 seconds) for an even more immersive experience. And it does, because this Boxster generation was still equipped with a genuine flat-six engine, without pressure, delivering a heavenly sound as soon as you rev it up. 315 hp and 360 Nm are more than enough for that, which in turn delivers a 0-100 km/h time of 5.0 seconds and with PDK and launch control even in 4.6 seconds!
The example offered here is a Boxster S with the unrivaled PDK, which has been in the possession of the current owner for over 11 years. Its complete history is traceable, both through the fully stamped service booklet and a folder of invoices. The current owner has spared no expense or effort to keep the car in top condition. Six months ago, a service was performed, and four new Pirellis were installed. The year before that, a major service was carried out, including spark plugs, ignition coils, and a PDK replacement. Two years ago, the entire chassis was replaced for almost €10,000. This included not only a few new shock absorbers, but also wishbones, bearings, etc. Everything was neatly recorded in a folder and, of course, the original service booklet. In short, a superbly maintained example, which was only used in the summer for scenic road trips and stored in the winter.
Our Opinion
Let's be honest, with Dutch traffic and its corresponding speed limits, there's little fun to be had in 500-hp monsters. This is the reason to drive a convertible (a real one, not a cut-open coupe), so you can fully enjoy it even at lower speeds. Factor in the lower price compared to the 911, and you have the best modern Porsche per euro. The S version is also very suitable for blasting along the German Autobahn, for example, because a Boxster really gets going with that PDK gearbox. We suspect that the last affordable 6-cylinder Boxsters will only become more popular in the future, because they're no longer made like that (sadly).
About the seller
The current owner is a true petrolhead; otherwise, you wouldn't have driven a Honda S2000 before… He naturally regretted selling this ultimate touring machine in retrospect, but he thoroughly enjoyed the Boxster S, which he bought used (at a very young age) and always managed to keep it in top condition. He cherished the car for a full 11 years (just check the invoices and see how many you add up). Given the owner's age, it's now time for a more comfortable car, and he's decided to auction the Boxster through The Collectables.
