About this Collectable

Porsche 911 SC cabriolet

From the film ‘Against All Odds’, car enthusiasts probably remember only 1 scene and that was the race between a 911 SC convertible and the Ferrari 308 GTS, the rest was secondary. In 1982, Porsche developed a Cabrio version for the 911 for the first time since the 356. There had been a sort of intermediate model in the form of a Targa for some time, but a fully open hood was still missing from the programme. Actually, the future of the 911 was going to look very different. Indeed, the model would be dropped. The future model range would consist exclusively of the modern, water-cooled cars with the engine at the front as in the 924, 944 and 928. After Peter Schutz took over, plans were changed and Porsche presented the study of a 911 Cabriolet with turbocharged engine and all-wheel drive at the 1981 Frankfurt Motor Show. In short, Porsche briefly showed in one model what was possible. From model year 1983, the Cabriolet was offered as the third body variant for the SC alongside the Coupé and Targa. Only 1 year was the 911 SC Cabriolet made and succeeded by the 3.2 litre in the 911 Carrera range that was delivered from late 1983 to 1989.

The 911 SC 3.0 Cabriolet offered here is in clean and original condition! No rust, damage or other woes and mostly 1st paint. Only the front has ever been painted due to scratches. Everything nicely documented! The bodywork is therefore in clean condition. The sheet metal is neat and original everywhere. The fits are correct and the hood fits nicely everywhere and is easy to operate. In addition, there is a tonneau cover, the forged Fuchs rims are in good condition and are fitted with new Michelin tyres with corresponding N-coding. The interior is upholstered in beige leather, is undamaged and matches the Schieferblau metallic paint perfectly. Unlike most cars from the USA or Japan, this car's documentation is in good order. The original service booklet is present and largely also stamped by the American Porsche-Audi dealer. The current owner still invested seriously in it in 2024 to dot the ‘i’.

Our opinion

A 911 SC convertible is a special appearance. Only 4,124 SC convertibles were made of which 1,718 were destined for the USA. When you then compare that to a 911 Turbo 3.3 of which over 20,000 were produced so truly a rare series. Some think something of the fact that a car comes from the USA, but this one already has the ‘normal’ bumper attachment pieces and the biggest advantage is that cars from the USA are generally rust-free. Bargains are long gone, but if you invest in a neat one now, it will always work out.
