About this Collectable

The Porsche 997 Turbo was the successor to the first water-cooled 996 Turbo. What made it special was that this 997 Turbo had two turbochargers equipped with variable geometry, known as VTG. It was the first mass-produced petrol engine to feature this technology! This meant that even at low revs of around 2000 rpm, the generous torque of 620 Nm was already available at 1.0 bar turbo pressure, and in combination with the Sport Chrono package, even 680 Nm of torque at 1.2 bar. Although the automatic transmission in the 996 detracted somewhat from the driving experience, in the 997 it added an extra thrill. Thanks to the torque converter, there was plenty of torque right from the start and the 997 accelerated to 100 km/h faster than the manual version. It was no surprise that a number of owners ordered the extremely expensive ceramic brake system to be able to slow down. The four-wheel drive system was completely redesigned for optimal traction and (even) larger brakes were fitted with 6-piston calipers that fit exactly into the 19-inch rims, which were fitted with even wider tyres. The 997 Turbo, together with the 997 GT3, was the last 911 to be equipped with the Mezger engine, known for its indestructibility. Some tuners get dizzying power out of it without major modifications, and yet it remains intact.

The example offered here was delivered new in Germany on 5 September 2007 at Porsche dealer Raffay. After only six months, the car went to Belgium and was serviced there by the Porsche dealer and Porsche specialist Van Beurden. The car is equipped with a number of expensive options such as leather upholstery on the door panels and centre console, ceramic brakes, adaptive sports seats and a sunroof. Both the previous and current owners have invested serious money in the car to bring it back to top condition from top to bottom.
Next week, we will have a model in our auction that has been completely overhauled from top to bottom and is in perfect condition.

Our opinion

A 997 Turbo is and remains a powerhouse. A superb touring car and sprinting machine and, with the right maintenance, almost indestructible with its rock-solid Mezger engine. If you are looking for a car in pristine condition with the right options, both visually and technically, then this is the one for you.

About the seller

The current owner has always been a Porsche enthusiast. In 2001, he refurbished a 356 from top to bottom together with his brother, from whom he also caught the Porsche bug. After a long time without a Porsche, the desire returned and in 2022 he bought this beautiful 997 Turbo from another enthusiast. Everything that needed to be done to this car has been carried out down to the last detail. This was all done by G-Tax Porsche repair in Wijchen, where owner and mechanic Gerwin Tax used to work for a Porsche dealer. Together with Gerwin, he has restored this car to 100% perfection, down to the last detail. Because he wants to invest in his business, he wants to sell the car, but as soon as the new challenge pays off, I will buy it back from the new owner...
