About this Collectable
Only 2,000 Mini Cooper S JCW GP cars were built, twenty of which were destined for the Netherlands. They were sold to enthusiasts in no time. The GP kit was therefore developed for the existing fast John Cooper Works version, which, in addition to some extra power, also featured red wing mirrors, a light grey roof with a large spoiler at the rear, a rimmed air scoop in the bonnet with the letters GP in it, wide sills and large open wheels. The interior was also redesigned by reducing insulation and replacing the rear seat with a horizontal bar that improved the rigidity of the body. The rear suspension consisted of aluminium parts and the suspension was made a little stiffer. In total, Mini shaved 50 kg off the weight, bringing the Mini GP to just 1095 kg on the scales. A VW Up GTi weighs more than that these days... Less insulation means more noise, which is exactly what you want in this fun car. Perhaps a little too noisy for a trip to Spain, but for better steering, the experience is complete. 218 hp and 250 Nm may not be the numbers that blow you away these days, but the combination of weight, limited-slip differential, modified brakes and direct steering make it a first-class fun package.
The GP offered here (number 521 of 2000) is not one of the 20 new Mini GPs delivered to the Netherlands, but as far as we know, it was imported from Germany as a new car by BMW dealer Jer de Fonkert because the GPs intended for the Netherlands were immediately sold out. The car probably had a so-called “Tageszulassung” (temporary registration) there and was maintained by de Fonkert until 2013. In 2014, the car was exported to Germany, where it was properly maintained, and returned to the Netherlands at the end of 2022, where it was sold to a Belgian buyer. The current Belgian owner still has the original Dutch registration certificate, and the car's history is still visible on the registration. The Belgian Carpass also shows the Dutch mileage history. The attached valuation report also shows that the Mini is in its original paintwork and is in very good condition.
Our opinion
The best Mini ever, at least in our opinion. A wonderfully pure and raw car, without modern frills. Low weight, manual transmission and instant power thanks to the compressor. The model we are offering is in fantastic condition and has a fully traceable history. This Mini proves once again that you don't need 1,000 hp to have real fun. The whole concept just works.

About the seller
The current owner spent 1.5 years specifically searching for a Mini GP. He came into contact with a car company in the Netherlands that had just brought the car back from Germany. He chose this car because it was 99% original, had low mileage and an extensive history. He has owned the GP for 3 years now and only drives it for about 3 months in the summer. In winter, the Mini GP is stored in the garage.
