About this Collectable
In 1963, the first Maserati Quattroporte (QP) was released as a 4.2 V8 (entirely in line with the car offered here), an engine derived from racing and intended to transport successful businesspeople and celebrities quickly from A to B. By Maserati standards, it was quite a successful car. In contrast to the QP-2, which was built under the Citroën regime. Fortunately, only 15 were produced of this by far ugliest model Maserati ever made. At the end of the 1970s, the third series was introduced, which was built until 1990. It was a huge vehicle, more than 5 metres long, 2 metres wide and weighing over 2000 kg. The fourth series dates from the Fiat era. Not the very best QP, shall we say. They were delivered as V6 and V8, both with (rather sensitive) biturbo engines. More or less based on the Biturbo Maseratis, this became the most successful model to date. The Quattroporte 4.2 offered here comes from Japan, has been very well maintained there and dates from the 5th series. It is a remarkable model that combines sportiness, luxury and practicality. It is equipped with a Ferrari V8, which was also fitted in the F430 and the spectacular Alfa 8C, among others. In the early years, the Quattroportes were equipped with an F1 Cambio Corsa gearbox that enabled lightning-fast gear changes thanks to a robotised gearshift. Most people who have an opinion about it have either never driven one or never learned to drive one. Nevertheless, Maserati decided to offer the Quattroporte with a ZF automatic transmission from 2007 onwards, which provides the comfort that suits the car perfectly.
This example is one such car, with a perfectly shifting automatic transmission and an ideal 50-50 weight distribution, and is further recognisable by its blue valve covers. The current owner is a stickler for detail and has carried out all the necessary preventive maintenance. The standard (sensitive) ‘Skyhook’ shock absorbers have been replaced by an SF racing set, which provides a good mix of comfort and good road holding and is immediately problem-free. The car has subsequently been aligned. In addition, the CAM CAPS (camshaft adjusters) have been preventively modified. This is THE most important modification of all F136 Maserati engines up to 2010. In later versions, Maserati did this ex-factory. A valve has been fitted in both CAM CAPS, ensuring that the camshaft adjusters are always lubricated and therefore remain intact. Unfortunately, this is often forgotten and after approximately 100,000 km, a major service is inevitable (chains, variators, etc. cost 4,000-7,000 euros!
Furthermore, all fluids, filters and spark plugs have been changed and replaced, and 4 new Hankook tyres have been fitted. The interior has not been forgotten either. The headliner has been reupholstered and the “sticky” buttons have been replaced. In short, this car is in a class of its own compared to the average models on offer.
Our opinion
Forget what else is for sale on the internet. Often for sale for little money, but then it's your turn and suddenly the car costs four times as much in worn parts or overdue maintenance. A unique opportunity to buy a Quattroporte that is truly in top condition, both visually and technically. An Italian thoroughbred with low, verifiable mileage for the price of a VW Polo. Not a bargain, but well worth the money, we knew it!
About the seller
The current owner of the Quattroporte is a Maserati man from the very beginning. His family swears by the brand and it has been instilled in him from an early age. He has done everything he can to get the car, which was already in very good condition, into top condition. He owns several Maseratis and considers getting the cars into top visual and technical condition to be one of the most enjoyable things there is. To make room for new projects, he has decided to sell the car through The Collectables to an enthusiast who can find the time to do what the car was made for: driving!

Comments
The car has minor signs of wear and tear commensurate with its age and mileage. There is some damage to the leather on the passenger side, but it is not distracting. The stone chip protection film shows some signs of age. Considering its age and mileage, the car looks very neat and cannot be compared to the average Quattroportes on offer.
