About this Collectable
Porsche 911 (996) Carrera 4 Coupé (Manual)
For as long as it lasts, the 996 generation is the most 911 per for your money.
Introduced in 1997, the 996 range is finally starting to get the appreciation it deserves and it turns out there is nothing wrong with water-cooled. Moreover, with this generation 911, all the switches are finally where you expect them, you have perfectly working air conditioning and a not-too-big body with the necessary safety systems. Come and find that in a 964, 993 or G-model twice (or three times) as expensive. From the very beginning, Porsche also supplied the Carrera with 4-wheel drive. From the MK2 onwards also as a 4S. A manual 996 Carrera 4 (like this one) may lack the fat ass of the 4S, but its lower weight and better streamline make it the faster of the 2.
This 996 of the 2nd series, started life in sunny Brescia and was delivered to its 1st owner by Saottini Porsche on 29 August 2001. 10 years later, the car came to the Netherlands. This particular 996 was serviced at Porsche Gelderland 20 kilometres ago. The years before that, the current and previous owner invested a lot in the car, including replacing the infamous IMS bearing, but also the clutch, brake discs/blocks, chain tensioners, exhaust etc etc. A total of 17500,- has been invested in the technology over the past 4 years. In addition, it was completely taken care of by Autospa in Hengelo where it was completely cleaned and the interior was made very clean again. On the outside, the paint has been polished and ceramic-coated, the headlights polished, the hubs painted, the brake calipers sprayed, new stickers applied, and all plastic parts made fresh again. We can be brief about this. An above-average clean 996, invoices and booklets included, manual and recent major maintenance.
Our opinion
A 996 is a fully-fledged 911 and is now appreciated as such. Literally, because prices for tidy examples are also rising. And with virtually no depreciation and daily usability, this is the ideal Youngtimer. This one also has four-wheel drive, so in winter just keep on driving and go to winter sports with a couple of carriers on the roof if you wanted to. The (original) rims for winter tyres are simply included!

About the seller
As a car enthusiast, the 911 was a boyhood dream on the current owner's list. He was able to make that dream come true in early 2023. After searching for a combo of a black exterior and lighter interior, he arrived at this one from the 996 generation from just after the facelift. Options were not important, as long as it was a manual transmission so as to have a real ‘analogue’ driving experience. The car has always been purely for ‘on the side’. In the time he has owned the car, no expense has been spared to give it the care it deserves. At the moment, he does very little mileage with it and due to change of duties (abroad), it even looks like it would become idle in the coming years. That would be a real shame, which is why the car may now go to a new enthusiast who will do what the car was made for; great driving and enjoyment.
