About this Collectable
The Audi S6 is basically the more sedate sibling of the RS6, or if you prefer, the fast sibling of the A6. It has a modest but chic appearance and slightly less power on all four driven wheels than the RS6.
The Audi S6 made its debut in 1994, based on the venerable Audi 100. The infamous 2.2-litre 5-cylinder turbocharged engine delivered 230 hp and propelled the manual version to 100 km/h in just over 6 seconds. Automatic transmissions were still a lot slower at that time. There was also an S6 plus with the (slightly detuned) V8 from the Audi S8. In the C5 generation, only the naturally aspirated V8 was available in a slightly stretched body.
The C6 models, the third generation S6, had something special: a 5.2-litre V10. Almost 100 hp extra from the Lamborghini Gallardo-based engine block, iconic because of its 10 cylinders. Later, the familiar 8 cylinders with 2 turbos followed. The 5.2-litre V10 with no less than 435 hp at 6800 rpm was the result of a collaboration with Lamborghini, which Audi had since acquired. The engine was reliable with the right driving style and good (preventive) maintenance. Unfortunately, the latter was often “forgotten”.
The model we are offering here was delivered new in Germany to its first owner, after which the S6 moved to his holiday home in Spain. He only used it sporadically, which meant that in 2021 it had only 22,000 km on the odometer. The odometer reading has been verified by Audi Gibraltar. The current owner bought the car four years ago from the garage in Spain, imported it himself and had it serviced by Audi dealer Emil Hellmich in Emmerich and Audi Zenna/Vallei in Velp. The Audi dealer also retrieved the data from previous services from the Audi system and filled in a copy of the service book. The S6 was in very good condition when purchased, but has been very well maintained by the current owner over the past four years. He invested €5,000 in preventive maintenance on the intake to ensure that it would continue to function without problems. This is a known problem with V10 engines. In addition, more than €10,000 was invested to keep the S6 in top condition, both visually and technically. In short, a very well-maintained car, which, as a youngtimer, can also be attractive to entrepreneurs from a tax perspective.
Our opinion
We will probably never see a V10 again. In that respect, Audi, Lamborghini and BMW are unique with the models they delivered at the time. Few engines have such a specific sound, especially at high revs. Both Audi and BMW also delivered their models as station wagons, giving you a user-friendly family sports car with truly exceptional technology. This example is a beautiful, understated car that looks very good, both visually and technically.
About the seller
The current owner imported the S6 in early 2021 with a mileage of 22,000 km. The interior of the S6 was in new condition, and he had minor transport damage and some paint damage repainted. A new Brink removable tow bar was also fitted. The current owner has enjoyed driving it for four years. It has proven to be a very reliable car, thanks in part to all the preventive maintenance carried out by the brand dealer. As his two sons are about to get their driving licences, the current owner has decided to sell the V10, given the power of the S6. He simply does not think it is a suitable car for boys who have just got their driving licences.
Comments
This S6 V10 is in very good condition for its age and mileage, thanks in part to all the preventive maintenance that has been carried out. Some spray painting has been done, including on the rear wings, due to scratches and minor damage during transport (invoice available), and there is minor paint damage to the rear right roof moulding at the connection to the boot lid, which has been manually repaired. Furthermore, 80% of the S6 is in its original paint. New original headlights (2500 euros) have been fitted, and the air intake valves have been replaced as a preventive measure (5000 euros). Furthermore, brake pads and discs (€3,000), suspension arms and rubbers (€1,250 euros), new S6 grille, aluminium mirrors, door rubbers, sunroof rubbers, new headlining, new windscreen (€1,200 euros), rear window (€1,100 euros), rear right side window. The car is cleaned by a professional. Everything to keep the car in top condition.
