The 1989 Volkswagen Rallye Golf was the absolute bombshell of its generation. It was the ultimate version of the GTi (16V) and G60 and was intended as a homologation special for the 1990 World Rally Championship. Instantly recognizable by its flared wheel arches in Audi Ur-Quattro and Lancia Delta Integrale style. Technically, the Golf Rallye was clearly a step up from the base GTi. The G-Layer provided a (street) output of 160 hp and 225 Nm of torque. To prevent this from being lost to the front tires, Volkswagen's Syncro all-wheel drive system was used. At least 5,000 units had to be built at the VW factory in Brussels for homologation. The Golf Rallye was a whopping twice as expensive as a "regular" GTi.

The example offered here is new, out of the box. Incredible, but true: the car only drove 55 km and then sat in a deserted factory. No lowering kits, tuned engines, chunky wheels, spoilers, running boards, or blue fluorescent tubes—just a completely original, new, and unused Volkswagen Golf Rallye.

This Volkswagen Golf Rallye is part of the unique modern classic car collection from the Audi factory in Brussels, which has been brought to the Netherlands.
