About this Collectable

Porsche 356 C Coupé 1964

The 356, that's basically what it all started with in the early 50s. The primal Porsche! A (certainly for its time) fast coupe with maximum pressure on the driven wheels. Thanks in part to its low weight, it was immediately competitive in just about all motorsport classes. Eventually, the 356 evolved until the arrival of the illustrious 911, which still used the same concept, only with 2 more cylinders. The 356 C was the last series and was eventually delivered until shortly after the introduction of the 911. Equipped with disc brakes as standard and available from 75hp to 130hp in the 2000 GS Carrera and even 160hp in the Carrera GT.
Partly because of the disc brakes, the 356 C has larger 15-inch rims and was only available with 2 engine versions, namely the 1600 C with 75hp and the 1600 SC with 90hp.

The 356 C Coupé offered by us is an exceptional specimen. There are hardly any examples to be found that have been in the possession of the last owner for over 30 years, who actually used the car. Many trips to Austria, Germany, Italy, France, you name it, were made with it. In the early 1990s, the car was restored by none other than Siemerink from IJmuiden. Siemerink Porsche has a number of legendary restorations to its name: from the rare Gläsers to the Emperor's majestic A Carrera. They have revived the glory of a 1951 coupe and restored the timeless splendour of classic 356 and 911 models. Each project is a story in itself, and so is this 356. The restoration has been done so well that this 356 is still in very good rust-free condition and is also completely in order technically. The engine, thanks to the 2 twin Webers and a different camshaft, delivers 90hp rather than 75hp and is fully up to speed. During a drive to Italy, the owner was accosted by a BMW M3 owner who wondered what kind of engine was in the Porsche given the consistently high pace maintained on the motorway. The car obviously has signs of use, but overall it looks very good and has always been well maintained by the owner who is a sworn appraiser of classic cars and thus knows very well what to look for.

Our opinion

A 356 is a must have for the Porsche enthusiast. The history drips from it, especially with this example, and the car is in a used but very good condition. A car that has been with its last owner for so long and has been continuously maintained is actually much nicer with its signs of use than a (too) expensive paid-for museum piece that you don't actually dare to drive.

Equipment

As indicated, according to the Cardex, this 356 is equipped with the following extras:

- Schiefergrau
- Conti tyres
- Faux leather upholstery

Modifications

The engine is fitted with twin Weber carburettors and a different camshaft.

Notes

This 356C is in very good condition. The car has signs of use, as can be seen in the photos, but it is rock hard, technically completely in order and a pleasure to drive.

Recent service history

The 356 has been maintained, partly in-house and partly by the specialist, on an ongoing basis and received regular servicing and maintenance before participating in rides, holidays, etc. The car drives, brakes and steers as it should.

Included in the sale

About the seller

The 356C is being sold on behalf of the current owner who has owned the car for over 30 years. He traded his Jaguar XK120 on it at the time and actually used the car for holidays, scenic drives and rallies.  As a sworn valuer of classic automobiles, he knows what he is talking about and obviously had the car looked after by the right people. Now 81 years old, it is time for some more comfortable transport and part of the collection may be sold.
