About this Collectable

The new Mini, which came onto the market in 2001, also received a convertible version (the R52) after 3 years. The 2nd generation (R57) of the Mini Cabriolet came onto the market 5 years later, in 2009. While the first generations still struggled with mediocre roof quality, this was resolved in the 2nd generation. As a fun gimmick, the 2nd generation featured an "always open timer" on board allowing you to see how many hours you had driven with the top down—because that is, of course, why you buy such a car! The new Mini was available in many versions and came as the Highgate with 3 specially developed paint colors: Iced Chocolate, Midnight Black metallic, and White Silver metallic. Other exterior features included body-colored mirror caps and special 17-inch Double Cross alloy wheels, and the dark leather upholstery is finished with light stitching. The name of this special edition is derived from an exclusive district in North London. A ‘high society’ neighborhood where various celebrities from British show business live. Highgate stands for British style and a premium feel, and that is exactly what MINI aims for with this special edition.

The example offered here is one of those, in White Silver metallic with plenty of brown leather trimmed with contrasting stitching. Delivered new in 2013 in Germany by the Mini dealer in Potsdam and brought to the Netherlands in 2017 with around 25,000 km. In the Netherlands, the Mini was also used for about 10,000 km per year and neatly maintained, and now has 120,000 km on the odometer. The Mini is further equipped with electric windows, heated leather seats, air conditioning, and, of course, an electric roof to fully extend the “Always open timer”.

Our opinion

A neat Mini Cabrio with a number of nice options and a beautiful color scheme. Ready for the new season and perfectly usable as a second car. The engine is an excellent match for the “cruising” character of this Mini, and thanks to the 6-speed gearbox, it is quick and relaxed to drive.

About the seller

The current owner has a number of hobby cars, but due to renovations and expansion, he wants to make room and has decided to auction the Mini via The Collectables.
