BMW M5 Competition

For many, the previous series BMW M5 is considered the peak model of the M5 range. With 625 hp, it may have slightly less power than the current model, but in terms of looks, and certainly in terms of driving experience and weight, it is a car that is much more balanced. A difference of no less than 500 kg and much more understatement make it, for the enthusiast, one of the last true super sedans. Thanks in part to the 4-wheel drive (which you can simply switch off if you want to play the hooligan), the M5 shoots to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds and continues effortlessly to a (limited) 305 km/h. If you want to drive into the residential area inconspicuously in the evening, that is also possible by simply closing the valve of the exhaust system with the push of a button.

Now in our auction is an original Dutch-delivered example with only 2 owners, in mint condition and with a complete dealer history. Finished in Azuritschwartz metallic and equipped with all the options that make it the ultimate driver's car. Essentially the last analog M5 without electric power, and therefore without obesity. Partly due to this, it is a naturally fine-steering car, as befits an M-series BMW. No matter how well everything is arranged nowadays with hybrid drive technology, it all remains somewhat detached and lacking in feel. The options that make this M5 extra fun are the Competition package, consisting of extra power, a modified suspension, and a special exhaust system, and the M-drivers package, which increases the top speed to 305 km/h instead of a limited 250 km/h. It has been treated with tremendous care, and that is evident in every detail. The car has always been kept in the garage on a trickle charger and has not been used as a "daily" vehicle. Hence, this uniquely low mileage. A top-class example in absolute mint condition.

Our opinion

It all started with the E28 series. The first super sedan with Porsche performance. BMW carefully developed this further in the subsequent series, but due to all legal requirements, has since been forced to adopt hybrid drive technology that makes it all just a little less fun. That makes this last “real” M5 an incredible enthusiast's car. Rarely have we seen such a well-maintained example owned by a true enthusiast. Still somewhat affordable now, but if the trend of its predecessors continues, this M5 will also become a true collector's item!

About the seller

The current owner bought the car with only 5,000 km on the odometer and has taken incredibly good care of it. Naturally, it has been perfectly maintained by the BMW dealer and driven only in good weather. Because the car is used so infrequently and there are quite a few other nice cars in the garage, he has decided to sell the M5 via The Collectables.
