The Porsche 997 Turbo was the successor to the first water-cooled 996 Turbo. Notably, this 997 Turbo featured two turbochargers equipped with variable geometry, the so-called VTG. It was the first series-produced petrol engine with this technology! As a result, the generous torque of 620 Nm was already available at a low engine speed of around 2000 rpm, with 1.0 bar turbo pressure, and in combination with the Sport Chrono package, even 680 Nm of torque at 1.2 bar. The 997 Turbo (MK1), along with the 997 GT3, was the last 911 to be equipped with the Mezger engine, known for its indestructibility, which was succeeded by the DFi engine in 2009. Porsche built a very limited number of MK1 models with MK2 parts, such as the more modern PCM3. It is estimated that fewer than 1,000 examples were built in late 2008 and early 2009. This makes it the rarest Turbo of the 997 series! Coming to our auction this coming week is a unique MK1.5, a Convertible with Ceramic brakes and a complete history.
