About this Collectable

Mini 1.3 Classic Knightsbridge

The Mini turns 65 this year! Since its introduction in 1959, the Mini has captured the hearts of many. Back then, the Mini was a revolution because of its progressive concept. The wheels neatly on the corners of the car for plenty of space and go-kart-like handling. The transverse engine made for a short nose, limiting the exterior dimensions with maximum interior space. In October 2000, production of the classic Mini ceased. BMW was already swaying Rover and already had plans for the new Mini and lavishly equipped the last series, the MK7, to fill the gap between old and new. The last series of the classic Mini rolled off the assembly line on 4 October 2000.
One of the very last classic Minis produced, this Knightsbridge was delivered to its first owner in the Netherlands on 9 August 2000. The 1275cc's deliver just 63bhp, but weighing just 670kg, that's just over 10kg per bhp. To illustrate, any modern Polo or Golf has a less favourable weight-to-hp ratio. In short, it is just a smooth car with, of course, the kart-like handling familiar to Mini.

This Mini has had only 3 owners, the first owner of which had the car for over 20 years. The colour scheme could not have been better (and not more British). British Racing Green with Creme leather interior otherwise finished with wood. The two-tone steering wheel, leather dashboard and leather on the door panels lift the interior to an unprecedented level of finish for this class. In addition, the car has the Sports Pack with wheel arch wideners and the 13-inch Minilite wheels. About 700 examples of the Knightsbridge were built of which about a quarter were fitted with the fabric sunroof as also present on this Mini. Maniflow's dual sports exhaust that points upwards at an angle sounds great and gives the Mini a racy look and completes the exterior!

Our opinion

That a Mini is an iconic car needs no explanation. The Mini builders pioneered the first truly compact car with lots of interior space and great handling. The Mini also stood (and stands) tall on circuits and rally tracks and as soon as you get in, you get a big grin, because what fun it is to drive! A true classic and rare in this condition and version.

About the seller

The current owner likes to collect nice and special cars with a nice story. This car was with a relation who had taken over his sister's Mini. His sister was first owner and had the car for over 20 years. To make room for a new collector's item, the Mini may go to a new owner.

Notes

This Mini is in good condition. Only a few issues need to be addressed such as a dent in the bumper, a small crack in the interior lining of the sunroof, some light rust on the lower edge of the bonnet and a few normal signs of use.
