About this Collectable

In 1964, the Porsche 911 became available for the first time as the successor to the 356: faster, more spacious, and equipped with a genuine 6-cylinder boxer engine. The 356 was already a nimble and sporty coupé, but the 911 was clearly a step forward. Ferry Porsche could never have dreamed that the 911 would become such a success, despite its unique concept (rear-mounted engine). It wasn't just the sporty motorist who appreciated the 911; the car also became an icon in the rally and racing world. The T-models of the 911 are and were the entry-level models of the 911, yet always something special. So special, in fact, that Porsche has had a “T” in its lineup since the 991 series. A car that brings everyone back to the essence of driving without unnecessary luxury or fuss. The first T-models came onto the market in late 1968 as the 2-liter. Later, the 2.2-liter engine was introduced, and the final T-models had a 2.4-liter displacement. Admittedly “only” 140 hp, but thanks to the lower weight and nice torque, it was a very nimble car and faster than the earlier S-models.

The 911 2.4T offered here was delivered to the first owner in the US in 1973 in black. A special feature is that the car is equipped with an electric (and well-functioning) sunroof! That makes for a much better drive than a Targa, which you can't really drive with the top down above 100 km/h. It has recently been expertly restored by Porsche specialist Erpa, among others. The bodywork, sheet metal, engine, and gearbox have all been overhauled, rebuilt, and restored. Everything is neatly substantiated by numerous invoices totaling around €85,000, and likely many thousands of euros more went into it. The "matching" engine starts immediately, runs smoothly, and responds beautifully to the throttle. Our photographer took the car for the photoshoot and came back with a broad smile on his face. "This thing drives so well," he said after getting out, "and that for a car over 50 years old!" The paintwork is neat and everything looks fresh and tidy. Despite the fact that the previous owner had invested a great deal in the car, the current owner has spent quite a bit more to turn it into a perfectly running car.

Our opinion

The 911 2.4T we are offering here is a really nice 911 from the F-series. Well restored, equipped with a rare sunroof, and a delightful driver. The previous owner put serious money (probably 100k plus without the investment in the car) into the car to make it a beautiful and fresh example again, and the current owner has spent quite a bit more to optimize the driving characteristics. A car you can truly enjoy. If you buy a fixer-upper yourself, you are guaranteed to spend much more than if you buy this ready-to-drive car.

About the seller

The previous owner had the 911 overhauled immediately after purchase, with everything addressed. It was his childhood dream, and the car had to fully meet his requirements again. No expense was spared. Unfortunately, little driving actually took place, as his personal situation changed, leaving no room for a third car. He drove it for less than 1,000 km and sold the 911T to the current owner at The Collectables last year. The current owner clearly had other plans for it and has driven about 5,000 km since then. Because he owns another 911T and recently also purchased a 930 Turbo, this T is now available for a new owner.
