About this Collectable

The Chevrolet Corvette hardly needs an introduction anymore. The 1st generation “muscle car” was introduced in early 1953 and featured a fiberglass body. That concept has remained ever since. With its successor, the C2, the “pop-up headlights” became standard on the Corvette. The 6th generation Corvette came onto the market in 2005 and was very appropriately named the C6. It featured a new body and, for the first time, was once again without the somewhat taste-sensitive pop-up headlights. The suspension was refined and consisted of independent double wishbones of unequal length with transversely mounted fiberglass mono-leaf springs. The LS2 engine had a displacement of 6 liters with a power output of 400 hp and a torque of over 540 Nm. Contrary to all tradition, the C6 was somewhat smaller than the C5, yet it had more interior space. Just like its predecessor, the coupe had a removable roof panel, transforming the Corvette into a “Targa.” While previous generations lagged somewhat behind in terms of handling, the C6 was a fantastic-steering car that could easily compete with German and Italian rivals! Connoisseurs rate the C6 and C7 generations as one of the most enjoyable and best generations. It still features the classic drivetrain with a front-mounted engine and the right proportions. Furthermore, it is modern enough to compete with German and Italian brands at an attractive price. You wouldn't think so, but the Corvette C6 is not a fuel guzzler either. The engine hardly has to work, the aerodynamics are excellent, and a weight of less than 1500 kg ensures efficient propulsion.

The example offered here has only 333 km on the odometer and only one previous owner. It is a car that has barely been driven and is, naturally, in pristine condition. Exterior, interior. The engine bay and underbody are undamaged; the tires were replaced in 2023 due to age. This Corvette comes from a very extensive collection and now has a standard Dutch license plate. The Champagne-colored paint suits it perfectly, especially in combination with the beige leather interior. Should the V8 sound start to bore you, you can simply switch to the Bose sound system. Furthermore, all comfort-enhancing accessories are naturally present! To improve handling even further, the car is equipped with a Performance handling package.

Our opinion

The Corvette was always somewhat of a neglected child compared to its German and Italian competitors. The American muscle cars always went fast in a straight line, but the handling was usually mediocre. The leaf spring construction sounds like it has the chassis of a manure cart underneath, but with the transverse placement, you get a beautifully balanced suspension with plenty of room for nicely guided wheel suspension front and rear. Partly because of this, the C6 was very successful in various racing classes and won, among other things, the GT1 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. As far as we are concerned, it is a young classic and nowhere to be found in this condition!
