Mercedes Benz 308D Ice cream truck
Whoever thinks of a 308 at The Collectables usually thinks of a Ferrari or very possibly a Peugeot 308, but a GTi. That we have a diesel on offer is all well and good, but an ice cream truck has never been seen before.
The MB 308D is one of the most widely used commercial vehicles in Europe. Extremely solid, available in countless versions and with enough comfort for long journeys. Passenger transport, taxi, invalid bus, contractor versions, removal van, long, high etc. etc. But it is also an excellent means of transport for ice cream trucks. Technically unbreakable, but there was one thing they could do: rust! Most MB vans failed because of a rotten body or chassis, incidentally this took a while and was better than the competition. Usually also because of astronomical mileage and very heavy use.
How nice then that we can offer a 308D that is still in new condition. Bodywork, chassis. Engine, everything as if it were only a few years old. With only 36,000km on the odometer, hardly any signs of use and fully equipped as an Ice Cream van, this is a unique car! The seat upholstery is original and in new condition, as is the steering wheel, counters, rubbers and you name it. No rust to be found anywhere, including the familiar spots under the door edges. Everything looks and feels like new. So do the axles, the original spare wheel, as if it has all never seen rain before. Also the equipment, such as the refrigerated boxes, lights, awning and so on are still complete, in new condition and, of course, all working. In short, a unique object, in fantastic condition, low mileage, completely complete and ready for the new season or for the collector.
Our opinion
You'll never come across this again. A rare well-preserved but also very well-documented and complete ice cream truck with only 36,000km. Obviously this is not a driver's copy (you need a calendar for the 0-100kmh sprint) like a Porsche or a Ferrari, but you can enjoy it at least as much by selling ice cream in the right places or just adding it to your collection. Nothing like what is offered on the market.

This MB 308D is in rare good condition for a 35-year-old car with lots of documentation. Only slight signs of use indicate that the car has been used. Even the original purchase receipt is present. For the first 8 years, the 308D was used for ice cream sales, after which the bus went into a collection and was revived in 2020.
