About this Collectable
Donkervoort Super Seven (JD0004)
The Donkervoort Super Seven (S7) was the first Donkervoort to leave the factory. It was powered for a 1.6-litre Ford engine that produced 90 hp with a four-speed gearbox. Donkervoort Automobielen, Donkervoort's brand name, is one of the few Dutch car brands, founded in 1978 by Joop Donkervoort. After the start-up in Tienhoven and later in Loosdracht, the factory moved to Lelystad, where all cars are developed and produced by hand. Donkervoort's motto is ‘No Compromise’, in other words real driving without aids. Initially, Donkervoort only used Ford engines ranging from a 1.6 to a 2-litre Cosworth Turbo. Thanks to the low weight of around 600kg, the 1.6 was already fast and the road holding was formidable thanks to the low centre of gravity and the engine behind the front axle. Meanwhile, the cars feature Audi technology with more than 400hp. Development has not stood still shall we say.
The example offered here by us is a Donkervoort in its purest form, purchased by its last owner in 1982. A car with a complete history and in very clean condition. Equipped with the 1.6 Ford engine that gives the light little car very good performance thanks to a basic weight of 530kg. So 90hp compares to 270hp in a current 1500kg VW Golf. Over the past 44 years, the car has covered over 100,000km of which almost all kilometres are very well documented. Dozens of maintenance invoices from 1984 to 2024 are present and all carried out by BMW specialist van den Hengel from Amsterdam and the Donkervoort company itself. There is also an assessment report for the certificate of authenticity. This is, apart from some minor modifications, a very original and untouched Donkervoort that has been in our possession for over 42 years (!).
Our opinion
A Donkervoort really is something very special. The author of this story has owned several himself and is still impressed by the speed and agility of this Dutch product. For a long time, the older models were underrated, but they were never cheap. In recent years, they have also been discovered by collectors, who have now seen that Donkervoort is not a one-day wonder, but a solid fabr side that builds on the theme they are good at. Building light, fast and above all pure sports cars, a dying breed unfortunately.
About the seller
This Donkervoort is offered by the relatives of the car's last owner. He bought the 1-year-old Donkervoort in 1982 and drove about 80,000km with it.
Equipment
This Donkervoort is actually equipped with nothing. Just a pure driver's car without unnecessary trimmings, as it should be.
