About this Collectable

Buell 1125R

The Buell 1125R is a Superbike but with the features of a sporty touring motorbike. Both on the track and on the road, the Buell is exceptional in its performance and has an exclusive and quirky appearance. It is the last Buell launched by Harley-Davidson and a crowning achievement of Erik Buell.

Erik Buell, former employee of Harley-Davidson started in 1983, with the first Buell motorbike, the RW750, to compete in the AMA Formula 1 motorbike road racing championship. At the time, Erik Buell was one of the best-performing private motorbike racers. After completing the first two RW750 racing machines, one of which was sold to another racing team, the Formula 1 series was cancelled. Erik Buell then turned his attention to race-inspired street machines with "air-cooled V-twin engine blocks from Harley-Davidson. Buell had worked closely with the Harley-Davidson Motor Company since 1993 and was responsible for the brand's sporting developments. Buell was initially 49% owned by Harley-Davidson, but eventually became a 100% subsidiary of H-D.

For the 2008 model year, a new model was added alongside the air (+oil) cooled models. The BUELL 1125R. The biggest difference from the then line-up is that this motorbike features a liquid-cooled 72-degree V-twin engine block. This 1125cc engine block was produced in collaboration with BRP Rotax of Austria. Buell uses a number of innovative ideas in its designs. To keep the centre of gravity as low as possible, he applies an aluminium frame where the fuel is stored. At the front wheel, the disc brake is fixed against the rim flange. This maximises the diameter of the disc and keeps the weight of the wheel as low as possible. The short wheelbase and geometry of frame and headstock angle also make for a very agile motorbike.

Our opinion

Surely, Buell is something really special. Many people have never heard of it. Unfortunately, the curtain fell on this quirky brand in 2009. The 1125R is the last model they released and thus a future classic. The bike is completely standard and has nice low mileage!
