In 2009, the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept car was shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show as a plug-in hybrid with a 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine topped by two electric motors with 139 hp. The chassis was mainly made of aluminum. The windscreen, roof, gull-wing doors and side screens were made of polycarbonate glass and the car had a CW value of 0.26. In 2011 it was followed up with the electric BMW i8 Concept plug-in hybrid with a 131 hp electric motor that drives the front axle, while the rear axle is driven by a BMW TwinPower Turbo 1.5-liter 3-cylinder petrol engine with a maximum power of 231 hp. The BMW i8 Concept was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011 and produced from 2014. Due to the special architecture, the weight in the BMW i8 is optimally distributed over the axles. The electric motor is positioned on the front axle and the petrol engine at the rear, resulting in a low center of gravity and an optimal 50:50 weight distribution.

Next week we will have an almost new i8 Protonic Red Edition in our auction with less than 1,900 km on the odometer. The BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition could only be ordered for a few months from July 2016, guaranteeing exclusivity.
