The second-generation M3, commonly known as the E36 series, has long been a neglected child within the M3 family. By now, most have ended up as tuning objects or are tortured on a track, where they rarely break down, incidentally! However, what was forgotten is that the famous S50 B32 inline-6 is hardly inferior to the notorious S54 from the E46 M3. Add to that the lower weight of the E36 compared to the E46, and you understand that the E36 M3 is at least as fast. Although the bodywork was barely modified, the E36 M3 is a completely different car under the skin. Suspension, differential, gearbox, and engine have all been adapted for the power output of no less than 321 hp. The E36 is actually a perfect combination of everything you could wish for. Little to no understeer, and oversteer only when you force it. The suspension is stiff, but comfortable enough on a not-too-bad road surface. Leather sports seats that are not only comfortable but also hold you firmly in place. The 2nd generation E36 M3 features a 3.2-liter inline 6 and a 6-speed manual transmission and was available as a 4-door sedan for only a short time. A true “understatement” car. Coming to our auction this coming week is an original Dutch-delivered example in excellent condition.
