The 1M Coupé is one of the most fun cars BMW has released over the past 25 years. With rear-wheel drive, a manual transmission, a limited slip differential and a 340bhp six-in-line, everything is there for a lot of fun. The E92 M3's rear axle with wider track was used to get rid of the power. Form follows function shall we say, so the front and rear wings were widened to accommodate everything. The track width was increased, compared to a normal 1-series Coupé, by 74 mm at the front and 46 at the rear. The 1M Coupé is the most compact modern M model and (of course) has a six-in-line under the hood, good for 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque (with overboost to 500 NM). Although the 1M has to make do with less horsepower, this little bombshell is almost as fast as the M3, with a 0-100 time of 4.9 seconds. More importantly, the 1M is lighter, more compact and more playful. The fact that the 1M was only available with a manual transmission further underlines the character of this car: this is a driver's car with a capital R. And with a capital M, of course. Introduced in 2011, the BMW 1-M Coupé was produced for only 1 year. Yet 6300 units were built while BMW was counting on 2500 buyers. This still makes the 1M much rarer than most other M models. This was evidenced by the fact that it became a sought-after Collectable in no time. Only 50 examples were delivered in the Netherlands and production already stopped in 2012.
The 1M may be compact, but with its flared wheel arches, four exhausts and beautiful 19-inch rims, it is still an imposing car to behold. Without making it all too gaudy. Inside, you immediately get into the right mood too, with plenty of alcantara and contrasting orange stitching.
The accident-free example we have on offer is largely in first paint. The right rear screen was painted once for cosmetic reasons, but that was done perfectly and only noticeable with the paint thickness meter. Delivered in the Netherlands on 9 June 2011 by BMW dealer Ekris and has also been serviced there until the second last service. The last service was carried out at the end of last year by BMW dealer Breeman. In short, a super clean and bright and original Dutch BMW 1M.
Our opinion
Actually, the 1M is the successor to the e30 M3, with its thick screens and compact build. For some reason, it feels a lot more special than the M2 partly because of its hydraulic steering, manual transmission, special body and of course its low production number. The 1M is still a real driving machine that was still conceived by the Munich techies and where the finance and marketing department had less influence as is the case today. Still somewhat affordable now, but if you follow the prices of an e30 M3 a bit, you'll know enough.

The car is in excellent condition, only the tyres need replacing, mainly due to age. That also immediately indicates how neatly it has been handled!

Maurice is a car enthusiast with several cars in his collection. The 1M is a car he came into contact with about 10 years ago and could never let go. For him, this car is the ultimate BMW in terms of looks, driving experience and, of course, as a special collector's item. It took me quite a few years to find an original Dutch-delivered 1M with the right options and history. To make room for a new collectable, the 1M will be auctioned at The Collectables.
