About this Collectable

The V8 S is the Continental GT that combines the best of both worlds: ultimate luxury and sportiness. This stylish example was delivered in the Netherlands and has less than 90.000 km on the odometer.

The first generation Bentley Continental GT was a hit. We could even say that this car was the salvation of the brand.

As a brand, you don't want to make too many changes to such a success story, so the second generation Continental GT is a further development of the first. At first glance, the cars look very similar, but when you put them side by side, there are clear improvements. The second generation has become more elegant and sporty, without losing the stylish looks.

With the second generation, there was also more choice of engines. Besides the W12, there was now also a V8. Later, the faster V8 S followed and that is actually the sweet spot in the Continental line-up. And also the Bentley we are talking about at this moment.

Where the regular V8 has 507 hp and 660 Nm, the V8 S goes even further. It has an impressive 528 bhp and 680 Nm of torque. It's a lot lighter in the nose, but just as fast as the W12, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. And you spend a lot less at the pump. Not only because the V8 is smaller, but also because this engine features innovative cylinder deactivation.

Another reason to choose the V8 is the sound. When driving gently, the engine is quiet, but when required the eight-cylinder also produces a roar. This is typical of the character of this car: you can take it for a relaxing drive, but you can also drive the V8 S like a sports car.

The V8 S is also tuned more sporty than the regular V8. For example, the suspension has been lowered by 10 mm, the springs are stiffer and the gear ratios of the 8-speed automatic transmission are shorter. The V8 S is therefore not only faster, but also handles more tightly in corners.

This example is a Continental GT from after the facelift. This means that the design has been refreshed, including a completely new front bumper and a subtle ducktail integrated into the boot lid. A beautiful new detail are the air vents on the front wings in the shape of a 'B'.

The facelift also has a slightly modified interior, but Bentley did not have to change much in this respect. The interior of a Continental GT is simply one of the most beautiful car interiors.

The first owner of this Bentley kept it elegant and subtle when configuring this car. The exterior is finished in Anthracite Metallic, while the interior is finished in Burnt Oak with Linen color stitching. In addition, Dark Stained Burr Walnut & Aluminum Fascia Panels were used in the interior. It is a Dutch delivered car from the third owner, with a modest mileage of 89.750 km.

Our opinion

The engineers of the VW group and Bentley went all out to build the best of the best. First for the VW Phaeton, then for the Conti GT. It was an enormous success and was Bentley's salvation. This was (and still is) simply an excellent car. But for the experienced car spotter, there were probably too many similarities with other cars from the VW group.

That was solved with this facelift version. And how! It is an extremely stylish yet powerful car, and although a twelve-cylinder has more prestige, the real Bentley Boy prefers the V8 S. This is a Dutch example with a complete history and new summer tyres have just been fitted.

You can drive it in comfort as a daily car, but also dash to Gstaad or Monaco in a single go. Where you will still be allowed to park right in front of the door.

About the seller

The owner is a car enthusiast who does not limit himself to one brand. He does have a weak spot for Porsches, because he has owned several, including a 911 2.2 T from '72 and a 993. Before the Bentley, he also owned a Maserati Quattroporte, but unfortunately that car wasn't free of problems. When his love for the Maserati was at a low point, he saw this Continental GT at Ferrari and Aston Martin dealer Kroymans. It was love at first sight and after a one minute test drive he was sold. After two years, he has now set his sights on something else: a convertible. For daily trips, he already has a Range Rover. That is why the Bentley can now leave his garage.
