About this Collectable

The Porsche 997 Turbo was the successor to the first water-cooled 996 Turbo. What was special was that this 997 Turbo had 2 turbochargers that were equipped with variable geometry, the so-called VTG. It was the first series-produced petrol engine with this technology! As a result, at a low speed of around 2000 rpm, the generous torque was already present, at 1.0 bar turbo pressure, of 620 NM and in combination with the Sport Chrono package, even 680 NM torque at 1.2 bar. Although the driving experience was somewhat less due to the automatic gearbox in the 996, it was an extra sensation in the 997. Thanks to the automatic gearbox, there was immediately a lot of torque and the 997 shot to 100 kmh in 3.7 seconds, which was faster than the manual version. The very expensive ceramic brakes were available as an option. The four-wheel drive system was completely redeveloped for optimum traction and (even) larger brakes were installed with 6-pot calipers that fit exactly in the 19-inch rims, which were fitted with even wider tires. The 997 Turbo was, together with the 997 GT3, the last 911 to be equipped with the Mezger engine, known as indestructible. Some tuners get dizzying power out of it without major modifications and yet it remains intact.

The example offered here was delivered new on November 15, 2007 by AMAG in Switzerland. Until 2018, the car was maintained by the Porsche dealer and specialist in Geneva, after which the car arrived in the Netherlands and was tackled by Porsche specialist Blankemeijer. The current owner bought the car from sports car specialist Van de Rijt in Uden with around 100,000 km on the clock and then had it serviced by the Porsche mechanic who previously worked for the same company. The car is equipped with a number of nice options such as leather upholstery on the center console, adaptive sports seats in cocoa leather and a sliding roof. All 3 owners have taken good care of the car and last year the 997 had an extensive service with, among other things, new spark plugs.

Our opinion

This Swiss delivered example has a beautiful color combination of GT silver with cocoa leather. Neatly maintained and thanks to the sports exhaust a sound that the car deserves. Turbos are simply quite quiet and this gives that little bit of extra sound without being disturbing. With a mileage of just 133,000 km, a Mezger engine has just been run in. The prices for neat examples are already rising, so grab one now while you still can.

About the seller

The current owner sold his company in 2019 and decided to treat himself to a 911 Turbo. Not to put down, but to use. He drove it for about 35,000 km and had the Turbo serviced by the sports car mechanic at Brut Mobility. The owner has decided to part with the car and auction it via The Collectables.

Comments

This Turbo is in good condition for its age and kilometers. After purchase, the current owner had the stone chip stickers replaced. The clear coat was damaged and the rear fenders were professionally resprayed. Photos of this are available. The front spoiler and bumper were also resprayed after a collision with a bird. A valuation report (approx. 1,300 euros) is available. The tires still have sufficient tread, but are from 2015 and therefore sensible to replace. Furthermore, the brake pads will soon need replacing.
