With its Daytona Grau Matteffekt, this Audi RS6 Avant ABT is a car that is striking in many ways, equipped with almost every available option. Together with its direct competitors (ALPINA B5 Touring and Mercedes AMG E 63 S Estate), the RS6 is the protagonist on the high performance stage of ultra-fast estate cars. 

We have to go back in time for the first Audi RS6 Avant (C5). This was in 2002 when the first generation saw the light of day. Until 2004, this V8 biturbo with an output of 450 HP was available. The second generation RS6 Avant went into production in 2008. Audi wanted to make a statement and looted the shelves of subsidiary Lamborghini. The impressive V10 from the Gallardo was slotted under the bonnet, given a twin turbo and boasted a whopping 580 HP. This car was produced by Audi until 2010. 

The Audi RS6 Avant featured here is the third-generation RS6 (C7). It was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2013 and rolled off the production line until 2018. Audi reverted to a more compact, less complex and more maintenance-friendly 4-litre V8 biturbo rated at 560bhp. 

Although on paper this RS6 Avant may have been less powerful than its predecessor, in reality it is not. Thanks to Audi lightweight technology, it has become about 100 kilograms lighter. The V8 engine also has more torque (700 Nm between 1,750 and 5,500 rpm) than the powerplant in its predecessor. It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Its predecessor required 4.6 seconds to do so.

The third-generation RS6 Avant not only has better performance, but also lower fuel consumption because it is equipped with cylinder deactivation, known as Audi Cylinder on Demand. The eight-speed automatic transmission consumes 40 per cent less than the previous RS6, averaging 9.8 litres per 100 kilometres. Moreover, the permanent all-wheel drive now features torque vectoring (more power to outer wheel).

The Audi RS6 Avant that is in the spotlight here is equipped with the Audi Dynamic Plus package. This includes RS Ceramic brakes, Dynamic all-wheel steering and the Quattro sports differential. 

But most notably, this RS6 has been tuned by the renowned southern German (Bavarian) ABT. This was done the first time after delivery in December 2014 in collaboration with the German Audi dealer, with the RS6 getting 700 hp. Then in July 2016, at the owner's request, the car was lifted to an even higher level by ABT, with the engine now delivering 730bhp and 920NM of torque. This enables a sprint from 0 to 100 in 3.1 seconds. ABT has also upped the speed limit from 305km/h to 325km/h. This makes this RS6 one of the fastest stations ever delivered, without being too garish.

The modifications have not only been made under the bonnet, externally ABT has also left its signature on the RS6. The 21-inch rims, the modified exhaust system, the ABT start and stop button and the ABT logo on the back of the car illustrate that we are dealing with a understated and exclusive car on the one hand, yet brutal and ultra-fast on the other.

Anyone taking a closer look at the Audi RS6 Avant ABT will immediately see that no corners have been cut on this impressive Renn Sport version. The car is richly equipped, meeting all expectations. The eye-catching Audi Exclusive interior, Leather & Dynamic package, electric panoramic glass roof and the B&O audio system are just to name a few. You name it, it's included in this ultimate speed machine.

Our opinion

A daily usable car that makes you feel like you are driving something special every time you drive it, this remains a delicious recipe. This is a genuine wolf in sheep's clothing. You can cruise leisurely with the whole family, but when you floor the pedal, the brute force of this machine reveals itself. On the way to winter sports, chasing 911's on the left lane.

You rarely get to see one on our national roads, but even here there is plenty to enjoy with such a car. And of course with all detailed documentation. All in all, that makes this Audi RS6 Avant ABT a very desirable premium Collectable.

Modifications

The car was tuned to 700 HP by ABT on 4 December 2014. On 7 July 2016, it was further tuned to 730 HP by ABT at the owner's request. The exhaust system was modified and engine modifications took place to enable the horsepower. The rear of the car features the ABT logo. Furthermore, the car features an ABT start and stop button. Other exterior ABT features have been left out.

Remarks

The car is in very good condition. Except for a small blemish on the left front of the car that is the result of touching a kerb.

The car has been serviced by Audi dealer De Waal in Gorinchem. All work orders and other maintenance documentation are present. Highlights from the recent service history include:

The owner of this matt grey Audi describes this as his finest car. An understated car that real car enthusiasts notice almost immediately because of its masculine appearance. He says he regularly sees his RS6 on various car spotting sites. Smiling, "I can rarely go down the road unnoticed without being photographed." The seller has been an avid car/ Audi enthusiast for years and has nurtured that passion with various types in the past. After 3 years of ownership, he is now in the process of looking around for something new. But it won't be easy to exceed the driving experience and HP in this RS6 ABT, he says.
