About this Collectable
Alpina B3 Touring G21
Alpina is officially a brand, but it used to start out simply as a vulgar tuner of BMWs with the BMW 1500 in the 1960s. Alpina always went a bit further than a ‘normal’ tuner and became a real car manufacturer. The 3-series and 5-series have always been the favourite objects to be transformed into Alpina. The first Alpina 3-series are from 1976 and have the type designation Alpina A4/3. Later comes the Alpina B6 in 1978 and has a 2.8 6 cylinder with 200 hp.
For the E30, the entry-level model is the C1 2.3 followed by the B6 2.7 and 2.8 and later even as the B6 3.5. The Alpina B3 comes in 1987 with the 325i as its base and, with 204 hp, an alternative to the M3. The difference is that the Alpinas were trimmed more for comfort and would always remain so.
Alpina's B3s based on the E36, E46 continue to be built according to tradition with 6- and sometimes even 8-cylinder engines. The E90 series even comes with a diesel, but fortunately also the B3 Bi-turbo with 360hp. The Alpina B3 in the F30 series also has the 335i as its base and is good for 410hp.
In 2019 comes the fifth generation of the Alpina B3 but now with the S58 engine from the M3, with slightly smaller turbos that spool up a bit faster. With 462 hp and 700 Nm, it's definitely worth a look and available as an estate car and always 4-wheel drive. As an estate car, clearly the forerunner of the current very successful M3 Touring, but with considerably more comfort and still a top speed of just 302kmh.
The one offered here is an original Dutch example which was registered by BMW Bergwerff and then sold to its first private owner. The car previously featured in a film by Autovisie. The options list is endless and the Alpina looks immaculate with only a scratch on the front bumper. Without striping and type designation, the car could almost be mistaken as an anonymous 320i. A real understatement car that lets you cover distances at (very) high speed in peace and quiet. Fully dealer maintained and very few kilometres.
Our opinion
ALPINAs are cars for true connoisseurs, the layman sees a well-dressed BMW, the connoisseur knows it is something very special. An Alpina is understated chic, very fast, but just a little more comfortable than BMW's M models. The current M3 Touring is unimaginably popular despite its hefty price tag which is fast approaching 190,000.00 euros. You can safely appreciate the Alpina B3 Touring as a precursor with almost the same performance and more comfort. Not that an Alpina is a bargain, but as a 5-year-old used car, it is a lot more affordable and much more exclusive. Extremely practical, understated and fast as needs be. As far as we are concerned, one of the very nicest BMWs ehh ....... Alpina's.

About the seller
The current owner bought the Alpina almost four years ago from BMW Bergwerff. He had seen the Alpina in an Autovisie movie. As he has always been a fan of Alpina looking for a nice fast and practical car, the deal was quickly done. Meanwhile, he drives it too little which does not benefit the car for the long term. Time for a new enthusiast who can have a lot of fun with it.
