About this Collectable

The 911 is, of course, a fantastic sports car, but to drive, the Cayman, with its compact size and mid-engine, is at least as much fun and, secretly, perhaps even better... With the first generation Boxster, you couldn't choose a coupe variant, but that changed with the 987 generation. Porsche's compact two-seater sports car was now also available as a coupe. The Cayman was born. The Cayman was given a look all its own, featuring a sloping fastback rear end. Just like the Boxster, the Cayman S boasts 295 hp. More than enough to get the Cayman, weighing only 1,300 kg, moving quickly; a driver's car through and through, thanks in part to the mid-engine.

The example offered here is a manual 3.4 in the color Lapis Blue Metallic. Something different for a change from the metallic black that adorns most Caymans. Unfortunately, the Cayman's 3.4 engines can suffer from an annoying engine ailment: Borescoring. Something that often occurs with improper use, insufficient cooling due to clogged radiators, or negligent maintenance. Last year, the current owner bought this Cayman with a “tick” in the engine and a blue haze when accelerating. Since he is a skilled car mechanic himself, he removed the engine and overhauled the Cayman. Furthermore, he replaced the (sensitive) AOS (oil-air separator) and immediately installed a new alternator and starter motor. Everything is neatly documented! To top it off, 4 new Michelin tires and new Brembo brakes were fitted right away, so the Cayman looks completely fresh again. The interior was not forgotten either, as the sagging headliner (a known Cayman problem) was replaced as well. The owner registered it in the Netherlands and has now driven 4,000 km with it, so he knows for sure that it is in good hands!

Our opinion

A Cayman is secretly the better Porsche when it comes to driving qualities. The mid-engine 6-cylinder ensures a fantastic driving experience, and in terms of handling, a Cayman is unsurpassed. This specific, accident-free(!) example, equipped with a valid CarPass, is back in tip-top condition.

About the seller

The previous private (Belgian) owner bought the Cayman about 6 years ago and had various plans for it. Due to work and other commitments, the Cayman was hardly used, and he decided not to invest further in it. The current owner bought the car because of its solid foundation. Thanks to his technical insight and extensive experience with Porsche technology, he has turned it into a fine project. The car is in perfect condition again, and he is looking for a new challenge.
