Porsche Cayman GTS (981)
The first Cayman was already a very well-balanced sports car and with the 981, Porsche improved this recipe yet again. And - unlike its successor - this one still has the brilliant six-cylinder Boxer engine. You could therefore see the 981 as the pinnacle of the Cayman line-up. The 981 arrived in 2012 as the third-generation Boxster and second-generation Cayman. With this, the car came another step closer to the ultimate sports car. For example, the chassis is 40% stiffer and despite the fact that the new 981 has grown in length, the car is again slightly lighter. The 987 was already praised for its handling and with the 981, Porsche managed to take the Cayman to an even higher level.
Apart from the spartan GT4, this particular GTS example is the ultimate version. This variant was added to the range in 2014 and stands for fast, sporty and very richly equipped. More usable (especially with PDK) than a GT4 and hardly any slower. This also makes this Porsche an excellent daily driver. The GTS offered here is still completely standard and from the first owner. He drove just 30,000 km with it over the past 10 years. A neatly maintained car with hardly any traces of use. Everything still looks very clean and cared for. The 3.4-litre boxer engine with 340hp provides flashy performance. To 100kmh in 4.6 seconds and the party only stops at 285kmh.
Our opinion
The Cayman GTS is a pure driver's car. We almost dare not say it, but in terms of driving characteristics it is elevated above the 911. The engine noise right behind your back enhances the experience and the whole GTS concept ensures that the car excels in almost everything. Production of the combustion-engined Cayman and Boxster models stops at the end of this year, so make your move while prices are still acceptable.
About the seller
He ordered the GTS from Porsche Luxembourg, where he used to live. His father (who still lives in Luxembourg) enjoyed it for the first year and in 2015 he imported the car and registered it in the Netherlands. As it was not a moving asset, the BPM was neatly remitted. The idea was to buy a dream car and keep it for holidays and touring for 20 years or more. Now plans have changed a bit and he wants to convert a truck into an expedition vehicle and go on a world tour in a few years. The mileage was already low and it will now be even less, hence the sale. It is an ideal car that steers great, drives sporty, makes a particularly nice sound, but you can also take a lot of luggage in it for holidays.
