Porsche Boxster Spyder (987)
The Porsche Boxster 987 Spyder is an iconic sports car that has captured the hearts of car enthusiasts around the world. With its powerful performance, striking design and excellent handling, this icon is a dream for car enthusiasts
The History of the Porsche Boxster 987 Spyder
The Porsche Boxster was first introduced in 1996 as an affordable entry-level model for the brand. It was intended to continue the tradition of the legendary Porsche 550 Spyder. In late 2009, the second generation of the Boxster, known as the Porsche Boxster 987, received a special variant called the "Spyder. This model was intended to emphasize pure driving pleasure and offered a number of unique features over the standard Boxster.
One of the most striking features of the 987 Spyder is its lightweight design. By using lightweight materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber, Porsche was able to significantly reduce the car's weight compared to other models in the same class. This allowed the car to accelerate even faster and perform better in corners.
In addition, the Porsche Boxster 987 Spyder has a unique appearance with a lower windshield, special side panels and a fixed spoiler. These elements gave the car a more aggressive look and also improved aerodynamics. The interior of the Spyder was minimalist and focused on providing a pure driving experience, without unnecessary frills. For example, the doors have a cord to open instead of a (heavy) lever. The roof is just a kind of tent that cannot withstand high speeds. Porsche recommends not driving above 200 km/h with the roof closed to avoid distortion.
Stopping quickly and closing the roof is not quite in the cards. It can be a bit of a fiddle when you want to open or close the roof for the first time. But after some practice, you'll become adept at it. Fortunately, thanks in part to the Spyder's aerodynamics, you stay dry when driving faster than 90 km/h.
Number of Exemplars
The Porsche Boxster 987 Spyder was produced in limited numbers to ensure its exclusivity. According to estimates, about 2,000 examples of the Boxster 987 Spyder were produced worldwide. This makes it a very rare car sought after by collectors and car enthusiasts. Most Spyders came in the color white. This example has the sought-after black and black combination and also comes with a rare manual transmission!
The limited edition of the Porsche Boxster 987 Spyder adds to its value as a classic. Car buyers looking for a unique sports car will find that this car is hard to find on the market.
Moreover, this Boxster Spyder is a famous specimen. The first German owner was photographed on the highway shortly after purchasing his car, with the Boxster Spyder (then still wrapped in white) under a speedboat on the trailer on its way to (probably) Lake Garda. A copy with manual transmission, black (with subtle red accents) and only 28000 km is a special combination.
The last owner owned the car for no less than 10 years and has now switched to a younger version of the Boxster Spyder.
Our Opinion
The Porsche Boxster 987 Spyder is an exceptional sports car with a rich history and limited production numbers. The model provides pure driving pleasure and offers car buyers fantastic driving experience. With little weight and a nice balance due to the mid-engine, you don't need 500hp to have fun. We expect the Porsche Boxster 987 Spyder to become an increasingly sought-after car for sports car enthusiasts and collectors.
This is a particularly fresh example. Few miles, dealer maintained and always used as a weekend / fun car. Definitely a unique and rare car that you would love to drive.
Also nice to know, the previous owner was spotted on his way to Italy. And not just with the Spyder, but with camper, Spyder and boat all in one.
