Porsche Boxster 3.4S (981)

A lightweight mid-engine convertible; it doesn't get much more fun than that. The 986 and 987 Boxsters were already very well-balanced sports cars, and with the 981, Porsche improved this recipe even further. Weighing 1,325 kg, the 981 Boxster S is one of the lightest modern Porsches and, as such, immediately one of the most fun, because it is a purebred sports car that truly comes into its own in the corners. Furthermore, the roof opens (in just 9 seconds) for an even greater experience. And there is plenty of that, because this Boxster generation was still equipped with a genuine 6-cylinder Boxer engine without forced induction, and therefore with a heavenly sound as soon as you let the engine rev up nicely. For that, 315 hp and 360 Nm are more than enough, which in turn is good for 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds and, with PDK and launch control, even in 4.6 seconds!

Now in our auction is an original Dutch-delivered Boxster S with the unsurpassed PDK, which has been fully dealer-maintained. Additionally, it features a special Ruby Red color, which was specially painted for the first owner's wife at his request. He insisted on this color, which was not available at Porsche at the time and was specially painted by Porsche. The color matches the full leather Luxor Beige interior perfectly. This Boxster has had only one previous owner and has always been serviced at Porsche Gelderland. Given the age and tire tread, the car has always been driven very gently. Furthermore, the Boxster looks fantastic with hardly any signs of wear.

Our opinion

You don't need 500 hp to have fun. Here is the reason to drive a (real, so not a cut-open coupe) convertible, with low weight and a mid-engine that still possesses the genuine 6-cylinder sound. Add to that the lower prices compared to the 911, and you have the best modern Porsche-per-euro. In the S version, it is also very suitable for blasting down the German Autobahn, for example, because a Boxster really gets going nicely with that PDK gearbox. Our estimate is that the last affordable 6-cylinder Boxsters will only become more desirable in the future, because they are no longer made like this (unfortunately).

About the seller

The Boxster is being sold on behalf of the current owner. He bought the car a few years ago at Porsche Gelderland because this car has exactly what he considers important and beautiful: a powerful engine combined with low weight, a fast-shifting automatic gearbox with the option of steering wheel controls, the right options, and a stunningly beautiful combination of paint and interior color. Unfortunately, he rarely gets the chance to drive the Boxster, and therefore he has decided to auction the car via The Collectables.
