About this Collectable

A mid-engined lightweight convertible, it doesn't get much better than that. Especially when it has been built by the perfectionists from Porsche. This is a Boxster of the 981 generation, the last regular Boxster that still has six cylinders. This example is fitted with the manual transmission and 20-inch Carrera S rims.

The 987 Boxster was already a very well-balanced sports car, and with the 981 Porsche improved this recipe even further. And - unlike its successor - this Boxster still has the six-cylinder. You can therefore see the 981 as the sweet spot in the Boxster line-up.

Like its big brother, the 911, the Boxster features a six-cylinder boxer engine. Hence the name. The Boxster's big advantage is that it has a true mid-engine, rather than an engine at the back. This makes the Boxster a car that is perfectly balanced in all respects.

Another crucial factor is weight. Weighing 1,285 kg, the 981 Boxster is one of the lightest modern Porsches. Which also makes it one of the most enjoyable ones. For this purpose, 265 hp and 280 Nm are more than enough. This translates to 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

Of course, the Boxster is not made to drive fast in a straight line. This is a thoroughbred sports car that comes into its own when cornering. We dare say there are few cars that offer more driving pleasure than a Boxster. This one is also a manual transmission, making it a car for enthusiasts at its best.

Also not unimportant: the roof can be opened for even more sensation. This is done in a mere 9 seconds, making it one of the fastest opening convertible roofs. Thanks to the use of magnesium, the roof is also particularly light.

This particular example is stylishly finished in Achatgrau Metallic. While the Boxster has 18-inch rims as standard, this one is fitted with the factory 20-inch Carrera S rims. The car is equipped with cruise control, Park Assist and seat heating, which also makes this Boxster great as a daily car.

The car was originally delivered in Germany in 2013, but was imported to the Netherlands after just one year. It has just under 87,000 km on the odometer and of course the history is present.

Our opinion

Let's face it, with today's traffic and matching speed limits, there is little fun to be had with monsters boasting 500hp. Nowadays, you mostly have to rely on the B-roads. See here the reason to drive a convertible, so you can enjoy it to the fullest even at lower speeds. And in that segment, the Boxster comes out victorious in comparative tests time and again.

The Boxster buyer gets the same doubts, discussions and opinions as the Cayman driver; "why not a 911?". Of course, the Eleven is the Great Example. With iconic status, on virtually every car enthusiast wish list from the age of 5. But although all the drawbacks of an engine in the back have since been solved by the engineers, mid-engined Porsches remain the ideal, compact tossable cars. With a front and rear boot, so you can actually take it on holiday. Add to that the lower prices compared to the 911 and you have the best modern Porsche-per-euro.

This particular Boxster is the ideal version as far as we are concerned. Last six-pot, manual transmission, fine colour and of course the complete history. No, it's not an S, but 265 (Porsche) horses is more than enough in a light convertible.

About the seller

Having driven a BMW Z4 for some time, the owner's desire to own a Porsche convertible kept growing. This Porsche Boxster matched that wish perfectly. With its great handling, power, good looks and enough storage space to be able to take it on holidays as well, this was the car to have. Unfortunately, the owner has to say goodbye to the Porsche for health reasons.
