The 997 generation was produced between 2004 and 2012. Porsche enthusiasts had been waiting with great anticipation—and fortunately, the classic, round, signature 911 headlights made a return. Over the course of eight years, approximately 15 different versions were released; the Turbo and GT3 models, in particular, captured the imagination—though they now command very high price tags. The 997 is more than just a facelifted 996; the interior was completely overhauled and modernized, finally reintroducing an oil temperature gauge and featuring higher-quality materials. Both the Carrera and Carrera S models are powered by a water-cooled, six-cylinder boxer engine—displacing 3.6 or 3.8 liters and producing 325 hp or 355 hp, respectively. Both models came standard with a newly developed six-speed manual transmission or an updated Tiptronic-S automatic. Another innovation was the suspension, which, on the S models, includes electronically controlled damping as standard. Coming up in our auction next week is a 3.6-liter, 325 hp model equipped with the Tiptronic transmission and several attractive options, such as PASM and a sunroof. As a 2006 model, it still qualifies as a "youngtimer" under current regulations, and it has previously been fitted with a new (improved) engine by Porsche.
