About this Collectable

In 1974, Porsche released the first prototype of the 911 Turbo. 260 hp from a 3-liter engine, equipped with a turbocharger. Only BMW released the 2002 Turbo around the same time. This was truly unique in the passenger car world. Never before had turbo engines been developed for public roads. By now, it is commonplace; in fact, Porsche is one of the few manufacturers that still supplies a naturally aspirated engine in its GT models. After the first few thousand 3.0-liter models, the 3.3 Turbo was introduced in 1977. By then, it produced 300 hp with an intercooler and power delivery that came in more gradually, thus without the abrupt pressure build-up seen in the first widowmakers. Although production ceased in 1989, the 930 Turbo is still considered one of the most iconic sports cars of all time. 0-100 km/h was achieved in 5 seconds and the top speed was well over 260 km/h. Impressive for the late seventies (and still today). You do have to work for it, though. A four-speed manual (the five-speed couldn't handle the power and was only supplied in the final model year) and no power steering. So that is real driving! Furthermore, the 930 is a great all-rounder. You can simply drive it to the bakery to pick up rolls and then head to the track at 250+ km/h via the Autobahn. A 930 like that doesn't flinch.

The one offered here is a 930 Turbo (code C00) produced for the German market and was delivered in the USA in 1982 to the German Rudi Metzler. Naturally, it has the “normal” EU bumpers and the 300 hp engine, unlike the USA versions with 286 hp. Unfortunately, the entire history cannot be traced, but in 2007, at approx. 85,000 km, the Turbo received a service at Porsche specialist Herfert. In 2008, maintenance was performed again by Porsche dealer Carrera Motors in Belgium, and after the current owner purchased the car for his collection, it returned there for maintenance again in 2013 at 107,000 km. The owner had the last maintenance performed in 2025 at 121,000 km, indicating that he used the car only sporadically. The Turbo is finished in the color Indian Red combined with black leather. It suits it very well.

Our opinion

A 930 Turbo remains an iconic car with an ironclad image. It is still a car that you can actually just use and is still seriously fast if you know how to handle it. Prices have already made a number of significant jumps in recent years, and the expectation is that the rise is not over yet.

About the seller

The owner has had the 930 Turbo in his collection for about 15 years. To make room for a new collector's item, he has decided to auction the 930 via The Collectables.

Remarks

The bodywork of this 930 is in neat condition. The rear tires still have ample tread due to very light use, but are unfortunately past their expiration date. The front tires are from 2019. A Porsche 930 Turbo is a maintenance-intensive model and requires the necessary care and investment on a regular basis. This 930 is sold in its current condition, and we recommend a comprehensive service and adjustment upon commissioning. The car brakes, steers, and drives, but the air conditioning needs to be checked. The gearbox and engine are leaking slightly, and the interior has some minor damage and deformation, as can be seen in the photos. The Fuchs rims have some minor damage. The paintwork is in good condition, but the tailgate is dull and deserves attention! The engine is matching, and according to the appraiser during the valuation (about 7,000 km ago), the 930 was once completely professionally repainted, and the car looks healthy, including the underside, without rust. Please refer to the attached documents for this.
