Porsche 911 Turbo (996)

Introduced in 1997, the 996 series is finally starting to get the appreciation it deserves. Vilified by purists at the time because a water-cooled 911. Now we are 26 years on and it turns out there is nothing wrong with water cooling. Moreover, in this generation 911, all switches are finally where you expect them to be, you have a perfectly working air conditioning and you can wring out such a relatively modern 911 nicely thanks to sufficient horsepower, a not too big body and the necessary safety systems. Come and find that with a 993 or G model twice as expensive. It is not for nothing that many a car journalist privately drives a 996.

Of course, the performance of the 3.4 (and later 3.6) liter atmospheric engine lagged a bit behind the 993 Turbo, so something had to be done about that. In 2000, Porsche introduced the 996 Turbo. The "old" but oh-so-solid Mezger engine was converted to water cooled just like the 996 GT3 models. Based on the GT1 engine block with which, with much more HP, LeMans was raced. A rock-solid engine that, equipped with 2 relatively small K16 turbos, quite easily delivered 420HP and 560NM. This power was expertly transferred to all four wheels, resulting in a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds. At the time, this powerhouse was not only a technical marvel, but also a source of emotion for anyone who once had the chance to get behind the wheel.

The Porsche 996 Turbo is not only a powerhouse, but also a feat of technological advancement in its time. With features like the all-wheel drive system, Porsche Stability Management, and in the process, of course, the first water-cooled 911 in the heritage.

Step into the interior of the Porsche 996 Turbo and you are surrounded by high-quality materials, ergonomically designed seats and an infotainment system that provides a driving experience that is both enjoyable and practical.

In short; The black Porsche 996 Turbo is not just any car; it is a timeless specimen that strikes the perfect balance. between power, elegance and technology. The 996 has played a major role in Porsche's history. Whether you are an avid Porsche enthusiast or just looking for an extraordinary driving experience, this Porsche 996 Turbo is sure to leave a deep impression.

Our Opinion

An original manual transmission 996 Turbo is not often offered. Then again in this current color combo it remains a joy to look at and drive. Despite the miles driven an investment for the future. Just look at the prices of the air-cooled ones that have doubled in recent years. Expect the 996 and 997 examples with Mezger engines to follow this trend.
