About this Collectable
Porsche 911 2.7S Targa
If you worked as a surveillant in the National Police, of course one car really sticks in your mind, a 911 Targa! Guido fulfilled his dream in 2012 and has had a lot of fun with it. A real driver's car to enjoy, with a lot of history. 175hp may not seem like much today, but as we know, at Porsche, horsepower counts (feels) double.
In 1973, Porsche's "F-model" (also called the primal model) gave way to the "G-model". Apart from an upgraded engine, the new generation had also received a bigger budget for safety measures. This was also necessary to allow the G-model to also be delivered in America.
The 911 offered here is still one of the first with the narrow hips, building on the early 911s. A few years later, the hips got wider and wider, and the turbo body added to that. The G-model is the longest remaining production model of the 911. As many as 16 years the model, in several variations, remained on sale. This "S" version and has 175hp. By today's standards that seems little, but instinctively it seems much more, which is partly caused by the low weight of less than 1100 kilos.......
The higher-mounted bumpers, with black fenders are characteristic of the G model. Fortunately, the classic 911 silhouette remained intact in the production of this model. But besides that, of course, it's all about the driving experience, which is huge in this early 911. It is still real work to elicit performance from the car and the steering is adventurous. With the right driver on board, however, capable of high cornering speeds. Not only did sporty motorists appreciate this, but the national police also enjoyed using the 911's capabilities. Lots of speed, lots of authority, no problems reversing on the hard shoulder due to the air-cooled engine AND of course the Targa roof which gave the possibility to instruct traffic while standing in the car. This made it an iconic car that still inspires a lot of awe today.
The 911 offered here is such a Targa in the colour white as was also used by the national police. Of course, just in "civilian" trim. The current owner bought the car from an enthusiast who had brought it to the Netherlands directly from the first owner. The 1st NL owner was not allowed by his wife to keep the car because of the sound....(unimaginable, but true). The Targa was bought new in Germany by an American soldier stationed in Germany who took the car to America after his service. In 2011, he had the engine overhauled, the body repainted in the original white colour and the seats reupholstered. The first owner kept extensive documentation and accounts. The complete life cycle of the car is documented.
The current owner bought the car with 139,000 miles and has enjoyed his 911 for over 12 years. Now it is time for something else. He hopes the new owner will enjoy it as much as he has.
Our opinion
Surely a 911 Targa captures the imagination. Especially in the Netherlands, where the National Police used them until the mid-1990s. Maximum driving pleasure with an open roof and the rigidity of a coupé. In an early 911 you still have to really work which completes the experience. A fun entry-level car in the 911 world!
About the seller
Guido has always loved Porsche and the 911 Targa in particular. As a traffic surveillance officer for the Rijksspolitie in Driebergen, he came to appreciate the marque even more and always had the desire to own one. After some financial windfalls, he spent two years looking for a good 911 Always loved Porsche and especially the 911 Targa. Every time he found one, a laundry list of problems emerged after an inspection. He eventually bought this Targa from an enthusiast from Eemnes, who had only just owned the car but his wife had to sell it..... Guido has owned the car since 2012 and also did the regular maintenance. All accounts of this are also present. When he bought the car, the odometer stood at 139,000 mls. He has enjoyed driving the car and motor-wise it runs beautifully. Guido is now entering a new phase in his life, so he wants to say goodbye to the Targa. He hopes the car will go back to a new enthusiast.
Remarks
Even with this Targa, under the well-known magnesium engine block of this type of 911, there is a drop of oil at the oil pipes and cooler. With the 2,000km driven on a yearly basis, about half a litre of oil had to be topped up. Engine-wise, the Targa runs beautifully, steers, brakes and shifts as it should. The upholstery is not original and has a damage on the entry side. The car is road tax free and also MOT free after October 2024. The car has been fully tectylated.
