Porsche 911 (993) Carrera 2 Cabriolet Manual
The last air-cooled Porsche is and will always be a thing. The die-hards swear by the indestructible Mezger engine with its raucous boxer sound. In this latest version with varioram, probably the best air cooler available. 286hp from 3.6 litres doesn't seem like much, but on less than 1400kg and with the 6-speed manual transmission, it's a joy to drive. Good for 286hp, with the potential to tap 275km/h. Combined with the ability to fold back the roof. That these engines last a long time is no secret, so this 993 has just been broken in. The Porsche 964 was already an evolution from the G-model with power steering and independent suspension. The 993 took it up a notch with a 5-way guided rear suspension and even more fine-tuning to the engine.
On 3 June 1996, the Porsche dealer in San Antonio, Texas, registered this beautiful 993 Cabriolet. As is often the case with sports cars, Americans prefer to choose a manual gearbox, so this 993 was also equipped with one. Soon the car was sold to its (actually 1st) next owner on 27 May 1996. After 12 years, the car was exported to the Netherlands and shortly afterwards went to the current owner who has looked after it for the past 15 years. The 993 has been continuously maintained at race and rally preparer Kobus tuning in Lichtenvoorde in recent years and still looks neat. The roof was once replaced and has hardly any wear marks. Everything else works as it should. The combination of black paint with black roof and interior looks great on it! Upon import, the odometer read 50,826 miles, which comes with the car as it was replaced shortly afterwards with an odometer that started at 0 km. Overall, the car has now done just 105,000km. The car was also fitted with the (much nicer) European bumpers after import.
Our opinion
In our opinion, one of the very nicest and best driving air coolers. Just driven in, neatly maintained and ready for the next sunny drive. Of course, the special rims and USA size number plates are easy to customise to your liking.
