About this Collectable
Porsche 993 Carrera 4S
The final ultimate version of the air-cooled Porsches and one of the most captivating models is undoubtedly the Carrera 4S, built from 1995 to 1998 and a cross between the Carrera and the Turbo. Apart from the large rear spoiler, however, the two models are identical in many respects. The Carrera 4S features the 6 cm wider Turbo chassis from the factory, resulting in wider rear fenders. Additionally, the Carrera 4S is equipped as standard with the 18-inch wheels and red brake calipers of the Turbo, and the Carrera 4S is also fitted with side skirts. Technically, the Carrera 4S is essentially the same as the Carrera with the 286 hp naturally aspirated engine. In total, only 6,948 examples of the Carrera 4S were produced, and it was delivered exclusively with a manual gearbox. Now in our auction is a very fine and well-documented example. Delivered in Germany by Porsche Zentrum Hofheim in 1998 and brought to the Netherlands in 2003 by Theo Jansen Porsche with 63,000 km on the odometer at the time. In March 2022, the car was sold with approx. 125,000 km to the current Belgian owner, who had major maintenance performed by Porsche specialist van Beurden in 2024. Prior to that, the car was serviced by, among others, Car Service Visser, GTax repair, and Rennsport Breda. The latter performed extensive maintenance in 2017, during which the engine was disassembled and all gaskets were replaced so that the 4S looked completely fresh again. Additionally, the suspension was refreshed with a Bilstein B8 suspension, ensuring the 4S still handles very sharply. This is therefore a 993 on which the owners have spent serious money to keep the car in top condition.
Our opinion
Alongside the Turbo and the RS, the 4S is arguably the most captivating 993, with its substantial rear end, Turbo suspension, and beautiful 18-inch wheels. Equipped with four-wheel drive, it makes the 993 a perfect all-rounder with a superb appearance. Incidentally, it is quite special: This 993 does not have a sunroof, making it extremely suitable for taller drivers! If you are looking for a beautiful and accident-free example with a very good maintenance history, then this 993—the last air-cooled 911—is a fantastic offer.
About the seller
The current owner purchased the car in 2021 as a boyhood dream yet to be fulfilled. Due to a move, parking space is too limited to give the 4S a proper spot. He has therefore decided to sell the 993 4S via The Collectables.
