About this Collectable

In 1974, Porsche released the first prototype of the 911 Turbo. 260 hp from a 3-liter engine, equipped with a turbocharger. Only BMW released the 2002 Turbo around the same time. This was truly unique in the passenger car world. Turbocharged engines had never been developed for public roads. Now it's commonplace; in fact, Porsche is one of the few manufacturers that still offers a naturally aspirated engine in its GT models. After the first few thousand 3.0-liter models, the 3.3 Turbo was introduced in 1977. It now offered 300 hp with an intercooler and a more gradual power delivery, so without the abrupt boost buildup seen in the early Widowmakers. Although production ceased in 1989, the 930 Turbo is still considered one of the most iconic sports cars of all time. 0-100 km/h (62 mph) took 5 seconds, and the top speed was over 260 km/h (162 mph). Impressive for the late 1970s (and still today). You have to work for it, though. A four-speed manual transmission (the five-speed couldn't handle the power and was only available in the final model year) and no power steering. That's real driving! Furthermore, the 930 is a fantastic all-rounder. You can simply take it to the bakery to pick up rolls and then drive it on the Autobahn at 250+ km/h to the race track. A 930 like this doesn't flinch.

The 930 Turbo offered here was delivered in Germany in 1981 and, as far as I can tell, was registered in the Netherlands in 1993. The 930 then had the same Dutch owner for about 13 years, and after an extensive restoration, the car moved to Belgium and ended up in a collection. Since the restoration, it has only been driven 6,000 km. The 930 was originally delivered in a beautiful but somewhat dull silver-gray color. Since the owner decided to completely overhaul the car in 2013, the car was stripped down to the bone and repainted in "Moosgrün." The work is documented by approximately €50,000 in invoices. In addition, the engine block was delivered to Porsche Gelderland and completely overhauled, documented by approximately €32,000 in invoices. The then-owned FG Porsche spent over 50 hours on various overhauls and repairs, and had the bodywork and paintwork done elsewhere. This is a high-quality body restoration that still looks very good, especially combined with the beige leather interior. A total of approximately €100,000 was invested in the car.

Our Opinion

We've rarely seen a G-model in a better color combination than this 930 Turbo. A sight to behold. Tastes differ, of course, but in our humble opinion, it doesn't get any better than this. The 930 Turbo remains an icon, a car you can actually drive and still be seriously fast if you know how to handle it.

About the seller

Comments

The bodywork of this 930 is in very good condition. The tires still have plenty of tread due to minimal use, but are unfortunately past their sell-by date. A Porsche 930 Turbo is a high-maintenance model and requires regular care and investment.
This 930 is being sold in its current condition, and we recommend a thorough service and tune-up upon first use. The gearbox and oil tank are a bit worn, and the dashboard isn't completely level. The paintwork, underbody, and suspension are still in excellent condition! A valuation report for €175,000 is included. The engine is matching, and the gearbox is likely matching as well, but it cannot be verified due to a missing serial number.
