Mercedes G-Class G 500 Kort (SWB) BA3 Final Edition
Since its public debut in 1979, the Mercedes G-Class has a long history of loyal service and enduring appeal to car enthusiasts around the world. Designed as a utilitarian vehicle for off-road use, the G-Class has seen several luxurious and high-performance variants over the years, while still remaining true to its rugged origins.
The short G-Class was and remains a maverick and sold relatively little. Mercedes therefore decided to stop production and focus entirely on the 5-door versions. The effect of this was/is that the prices of the short G-Classes have skyrocketed over the past few years, and this is especially true of the last series, which came only as a 500 (5.5-litre V8 with 388hp) as a full option version. The G500 SWB offered here with a retrofitted AMG exhaust with the familiar 8-cylinder roar is one of those and has driven just 3,500km per year for the past 12 years. Hence the very low mileage of 43,500km. So it has just been broken in! This is the limited BA3 Final Edition version. One of the very last short G-Classes!
Thanks to its short wheelbase, it is a very agile and practically usable car that feels at home in the stand but also in rough terrain.
The last series, produced until 2012, featured the 5.5-litre V8. Of course, that makes it extra fun as a G500. It produced a pretty serious 388 hp in this latest version of the W463, and with that you do 0 to 100 in 5.9 seconds. Brilliant right?
Although the current owner uses the car regularly, the short G we are offering is still a real enthusiast's car and given the price trend and the very low mileage of just 43,000km, also an attractive investment. After all, as indicated, they are no longer made like this. Obviously fully dealer maintained, equipped with a few small, but oh so nice, upgrades such as an AMG bumper and grille. In addition, the car has the AMG exhaust system with the rugged ‘side-pipes’. Actually a must in this car to complete the experience!
The car was imported in 2017 year from the first owner by Mercedes dealer from Veenendaal for the current owner. Who did not drive it much but does use it regularly. The car is in top condition and shows hardly any signs of use and has been neatly serviced at the Mercedes dealer every year
Our opinion
The latest short G-Class is unique! It looks tough with its short wheelbase and is in every way much easier to fit than its big 5-door brother and therefore a lot more ‘city-friendly’. Of course, it is also a lot lighter, which makes the fat V8 even better. Truly a treat to drive, especially with the AMG exhaust fitted. The fact that this is a BA3 Final Edition makes it all even more special.

The owner is a true Mercedes enthusiast and loves the number 500. He has several Mercedes cars with the 500 designation. Since he hardly gets around to driving, he has decided to sell some of his cars through The Collectables.
