Mercedes G-Class G 500 Cabriolet SWB
Since its public debut in 1979, the Mercedes G-Class has a long history of loyal service and enduring appeal to car enthusiasts around the world. Designed as a utilitarian vehicle for off-road use, the G-Class has seen several luxurious and high-performance variants over the years, while still remaining true to its rugged origins.
Surely, the G-Class offered here is one of the most unusual and striking variants ever built. A true G 500 convertible with the short wheelbase! In 2013, this G-Class Cabriolet rolled off the assembly line. Equipped with the 5.5-litre V8 and 388 hp, naturally paired with a perfect automatic gearbox that allows the G to drive wonderfully on torque. The retrofitted AMG exhaust with the familiar 8-cylinder roar completes it all.
The G 500 convertible is a car that true G-Class enthusiasts will love. In itself, a roofless off-road version off-roader is of course great when driving in the sunny south, but there are plenty of times when you can enjoy it in the Netherlands too. They have always been built in the W463 generation, but have remained very rare. The 4/5-door version and a fixed roof was much more popular. The last series, produced from 2012 to 2014, featured the 5.5-litre V8. Of course, that makes it extra fun as a G500. It produced a pretty serious 388 hp in this latest version of the W463, and with that you do 0 to 100 in 5.9 seconds. Brilliant right?
The short G Convertible we are offering is a real enthusiast's car and, given its price trend and very low mileage of just 11,700km, also an attractive investment. After all, they don't make them like this anymore. Naturally fully dealer maintained, fitted with a few small, but oh so nice, upgrades such as an AMG bumper and grille. In addition, the car has the AMG exhaust system with the rugged ‘side-pipes’. Actually a must in this car to complete the experience!
The car was imported after 1.5 years from the first owner by Thijs Timmermans, the legendary former Mercedes man offering a nice collection of exclusive cars in Waardenburg on the A2, and sold to the current owner. The latter drove it only sporadically and uses his short (but closed) G500 much more often. The car is in top condition and shows hardly any signs of use.
Our opinion
The last short G-class convertible with a fat V8. That they came up with it as a civilian vehicle at Mercedes is obviously great. The number of units sold is very limited, especially of the last series. That makes it highly sought-after by G enthusiasts, and it's also stirring things up with us. We had the opportunity to drive it ourselves and the experience is tremendous. If you have the means, this is a car not to be missed in your collection!

The owner is a true Mercedes enthusiast and crazy about the number 500. He has several Mercedes cars with the 500 designation. As he hardly gets around to driving, he has decided to sell some of his cars through The Collectables.
