The Honda CB750 really needs no introduction for motorbike enthusiasts. When introduced in 1969, the model caused a landslide in the international motorbike world. With a reliable 736cc, all-aluminium 4-cylinder engine with overhead camshaft, 5-speed gearbox and disc brake on the front wheel and initially 67 HP, the model was a dominant sales success from day 1. The model evolved over the years with the K0 series at its introduction, up to the K6 in 1976. Several technical improvements were made. In 1977, a facelift took place with the K7 model, including a different tank, 17-inch rear wheel and acceleration pumps on the carburettors. In 1979, the CB750 touring models were succeeded by the 750KZ with a completely redesigned engine.
In 1975, the CB 750F1 was introduced, a sport version with standard four-in exhaust and a tighter, more modern design. A newly designed cylinder head and higher compression provided more torque down low, yet power remained at the original 67HP. However, during the second half of the 1970s, competition increased sharply, and this led to the development of the CB750F2 in 1976.  The intake valves were increased by 2 mm, the exhaust valves by 3 mm. The camshaft timing was adjusted so that the CB 750 F2 got the ‘hottest’ cams Honda would ever use on a CB 750 machine. As a result, the valve springs had to become heavier. The intake ducts and combustion chambers were modified and the carburettors received acceleration pumps. Power rose to 73bhp, just slightly more than its direct competitors. As a result, cooling measures had to be taken: more cooling fins were added and the oil filter (which received driving wind cooling) was also enlarged. As the only CB750, the F2 got a black engine block, two front disc brakes and one rear disc brake as standard. Combined with the newly designed 18-inch Comstar wheels, the F2 had a character all its own.

This CB750F2 offered here by Collectibles was delivered in on 3 June 1978 on Dutch registration, in the colour ‘Candy Sword Blue’. Since then, the bike has covered just 13,000 kilometres and is still in completely original condition. That can safely be called very special and rare. A period-correct crash bar and Marshall muffler were popular accessories, and were probably fitted at or shortly after delivery. The bike has been put away riding and running, but deserved some attention and tuning of the carburettors. A new battery is included, as well as an original parts book and the original tools.

Our opinion

Surely Honda is one of the premium brands in Motorland. Fast, reliable and beautiful technology. Not for nothing do the police also ride Honda motorbikes. A classic like this 750 with only 13,000km and original Dutch delivery should not be missing in any collection.

About the seller

The current owner has owned the 750F2 for about 20 years and is an enthusiastic motorbike collector who sold his collection several years ago, but only recently decided to part with this special masterpiece. Therefore, he is now offering this unique Honda at The Collectables

Notes

The bike has been ridden and put away running, but deserved some attention and tuning of the carburettors. The left guard has a small tear. A new battery is included, as well as an original parts book and the original tools.
