About this Collectable
Ford Mustang 289 Hardtop 1966
The Ford Mustang is one of the most famous models of the American car company Ford. Designer-stylist John Najjar was a lover of the fighter plane the P-51 Mustang, from which the Mustang thus takes its name. The first example rolled off the production line on April 17, 1964, and the car was very successful, thanks in part to its sporty appearance and relatively low price. Nowadays, the models of the first series with construction dates from 1964 to 1967 are very popular among Mustang enthusiasts. The Mustang was delivered with a V6 or 4.3 liter V8. Starting in fall 1964, the 4.7 (289ci) V8 was also delivered. Model year 1966 received several minor modifications such as round counters (instead of a ribbon counter), chrome on the rear air intakes and a custom emblem on the grille.
The Mustang we are offering is from the sought-after 1966 model year, also equipped with the fat 4.7 liter V8 and in clean condition. This is an older restoration that was apparently done thoroughly, because the Mustang still looks very good. A few small spots on the sills do need to be addressed. The paint, upholstery and chrome work are all in very good condition and technically there is really little to criticize. The technology itself is simple to maintain, very solid and in case of a breakdown a pair of pliers and a screwdriver is usually sufficient. The Mustang came to the Netherlands in 1996 and has been on the roads for almost 30 years. Next year the car will be 60 years old and therefore a real oldtimer with all its advantages. The engine on the license plate is the 225hp version but this is the high performance version with 275hp, recognizable by the air filter and the chrome valve covers.
Our opinion
The current young generation, when they hear the word Mustang, probably thinks of a battery pack with 4 wheels. Probably fine for getting from A to B and, provided you do not drive faster than 90kmh, perhaps good for a range of 500km. Economical and practical totally fine, but with the emotion of a shipping container. This Mustang, with its roaring V8, is an icon with pure emotion and also road tax free. Besides, just like its electric brother, you can drive it downtown.....

Notes
This Mustang is now 59 years old and has been restored in the past. As far as we can tell, that has been thoroughly addressed and the car looks clean overall. There are some small spots visible on the seams of the sills that need to be addressed at some point. The engine is registered as the 225hp version but this is the high performance version with 275hp, recognizable by the air filter and chrome valve covers.
Recent maintenance history
There is no Mustang maintenance history. The car has been driven very little in recent years and has been serviced at the local garage.
