About this Collectable

Ferrari 412i

The Ferrari 412 began its career as the 365 GT4 2+2 and was succeeded by the Ferrari 400 from which the Ferrari 412 later emerged in 1985.  They are all V12, 2+2 grand tourers that are closely related and use the same bodywork, chassis and engine that has evolved over time. As is well known, the numerical designations refer to the displacement per cylinder, expressed in cubic centimetres. The 400 was the first Ferrari with automatic transmission and was replaced by the fuel-injected 400 i in 1979. The improved 412 was produced from 1985 to 1989, ending Ferrari's longest-ever production run. The engine is an impressive nearly 5-litre (12x412=4944cc) 12-cylinder with 340hp. Not a high-loaded or high-revving machine, but delightful to drive on torque, which suits the overall character of this beautiful 2+2 extremely well. For track tigers, Ferrari has another department, this 412 is made for long drives where you still get out fit after 1,000km of Autobahn or Autostrada. The V12 in the 412i, is the last Colombo engine to come in a Ferrari, a bit like the 993 was the last air-cooled Porsche, thus ending an impressive career.

The 412i offered here has a great colour combination of Anthracite grey with burgundy leather/alcantara interior. Unfortunately, little is known of the car. It must be one of the very last 412s as they were produced through 1989 and this one was admitted in April 1990. As far as we can tell, the car was delivered new in Japan and came to the Netherlands in 2021. There, according to the documentation, the necessary work was done to get it technically up to date again.

Our opinion

In the 80s and 90s, it must have been an experience if you could afford a 412i. What a beautiful machine! Can you see yourself cruising to the South of France with plenty of power under the hood and, especially for a Ferrari, plenty of space. In the back, you sit just fine and the boot too offers plenty of space. The classic round rear lights combined with the 4 sturdy exhausts give the car a great look. Personally, we think this has much more to it than the current SUVs Ferrari has in its range.

Equipment

This Ferrari 412i is equipped with, among other things:

Electrically adjustable seats
Electric windows
Leather - Alcantara upholstery
Air conditioning
Automatic transmission
Power steering
Modifications
Radio cassette player
Alloy wheels (non TRX)
MOMO wooden steering wheel

Notes

As described, not much is known about the car. On an attached A4 sheet, it says, that the necessary work has been done. The paint thickness indicates that the car was once painted and on the nose and front wings and left front door, some paintwork action is visible in the form of some small cracks. In addition, there is a crack in the rear window. The car has recently undergone a complete technical overhaul and otherwise drives well as shown in Autoblog's driving impression. Furthermore, the car has been fitted with a set of Koenig (probably made by Speedline) alloy wheels. Necessary as the standard TRX tyres are no longer supplied (or very occasionally on special order).
