BMW Z4 Convertible 2.5
The BMW Z4 E85 has all the ingredients that make a BMW so good, but in a beautifully lined roadster package. This time in the beautiful colour combination of silver with red leather.
To what extent the slogan ‘Freude am Fahren’ applies can vary from one BMW model to another, but in the case of the Z4 this slogan is undoubtedly right on the mark. It is and remains a special car. This Z4 is manual, in excellent condition and (of course) equipped with a fine six-cylinder engine. Like (almost) all BMWs, the E85 Z4 is a real driver's car. And that, of course, is exactly what you want, especially in combination with a manual transmission. The 192bhp 2.5-litre runs silky smooth and revs easily, providing excellent performance to match the car's character. Besides, with proper maintenance, this 6-cylinder is almost indestructible!
The design of the Z4 came about under the direction of Chris Bangle. He ensured that the Z4's design became something special. In a positive sense, that is, as not all his designs garnered applause..... The Z4 certainly has the potential to become a classic. Its proportions are nicely traditional, while things like the Z-line on the flanks and the unusually shaped headlights provide a hefty dose of distinctiveness. As the successor to the E85 looks quite different, it is therefore still a unique design.
This 2004 example was bought by the current owner as he loves roadsters. After purchase, he had the car serviced and the engine runs nicely, the transmission shifts as it should and the car is on the road as would be expected from a BMW, thanks in part to the Michelin tyres.
Our opinion
A convertible that dries up nicely, especially in this classic colour combination. A fine 6-cylinder, a smooth shifting 5-speed gearbox and direct steering make driving a joy. A fun budding classic that has had its lowest price point by now. Recently, Wouter from Autoblog tested a similar one and was very enthusiastic!
