BMW 440i Coupé (F32 LCI)

Starting with the e36 series, BMW always had a true coupé on offer based on the 3-series. Even the 2-door e30 was sometimes called that, but that was really just a 2-door sedan. From 2013, the 3-series coupé disappeared and went life as the 4-series, just as the 6-series was the coupé version of the 5-series. The F32 (4-series coupe) was introduced in 2012 and succeeded by the facelift version in 2017. So the model we now have in the auction. A new engine was immediately developed for the (apart from the M4 / M3) heaviest version. The now acclaimed B58, which succeeded the N55 engine (which still had occasional problems). The B58 is apparently capable of huge power outputs, as many tuners manage to get 700hp or more out of it without too many problems without a connecting rod voluntarily leaving the block. The chassis and steering were also given another overhaul in 2017, making it an even better handling car. It is and remains a much-loved model, which unfortunately is also noticed by the rogue car trade. A striking number of 3- and 4-series come from the USA or the Middle East and, often after some investigation, have a dubious damage history. Often cheaply refurbished in a former Eastern bloc country without paying too much attention to safety. Price-wise, this makes them interesting, but you don't really want them.

The 440i Coupé offered here was originally delivered in the Netherlands and has been neatly maintained. Although equipped with the right options, the car has been spiced up with some subtle adjustments and the engine has had stage 1 tuning, which you obviously don't need, but which is nice for a traffic light sprint. This is a true driver's version with rear-wheel drive. So the front wheels are really for steering and are not disturbed by drive. Besides, it also saves 70kg! Naturally equipped with the great ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox which has recently been flushed as a precaution. Snapper Rocks blue metallic is a colour you see a lot on press cars and in the media, but relatively few were delivered. Most have gone for the ‘safe’ silver or black, but we think this colour is great and suits the car's character well.

Our opinion 

A neat original Dutch-delivered 440i in a sparkling colour. Also neatly maintained and spiced up a bit with a different (M4) bonnet, some subtle spoilers and a little bit more power. All in all, almost an M4, but at a very different rate. If you are looking for a tasty driver's car with plenty of punch and sufficient comfort, then this is a great offer!

About the seller

Ruben had been looking for a young 4 Series coupe in a striking colour for some time, after all, everyone already has black, grey or white. In addition, it was a requirement to find an original Dutch-delivered BMW of this type, as a large proportion of what is for sale as imports are ex (total loss) damage vehicles from the USA. This 440i met all the requirements so the choice was quickly made. He has now bought a house so priorities are a bit different. The car shows slight signs of use, see also the 200 added photos! The bonnet was newly painted when fitted. Otherwise, this is a car with no damage history. There is another recall action is for the driver's airbag. This will be repaired before sale at brand dealer van Poelgeest (formerly Hans Severs) in Alphen aan den Rijn.
