About this Collectable

BMW 1M Coupé

The 1M Coupé is one of the most fun cars BMW has released over the past 25 years. With rear-wheel drive, a manual transmission, a limited slip differential and a 340bhp six-in-line, everything is there for a lot of fun. The E92 M3's rear axle with wider track was used to get rid of the power. Form follows function shall we say, so the front and rear wings were widened to accommodate everything. The track width was increased, compared to a normal 1-series Coupé, by 74 mm at the front and 46 at the rear.
The 1M Coupé is the most compact modern M model and (of course) has a six-in-line under the hood, good for 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque (overboost to 500 NM).
Although the 1M has to make do with less horsepower, this little bombshell is almost as fast as the M3, with a 0-100 time of 4.9 seconds. More importantly, the 1M is lighter, more compact and more playful. The fact that the 1M was only available with a manual transmission further underlines the character of this car: this is a driver's car with a capital R. And with a capital M, of course.
Introduced in 2011, the BMW 1M Coupé was produced for only 1 year. Yet 6300 units were built while BMW was counting on 2500 buyers. This still makes the 1M much rarer than most other M-models. This was evidenced by the fact that it became a sought-after Collectable in no time.
The 1M may be compact, but with its flared wheel arches, four exhausts and stunning 19-inch rims, it is still an imposing car to behold. Without making it all too gaudy. Inside, you immediately get into the right mood too, with plenty of alcantara and contrasting orange stitching.

The accident-free example we are offering still has the first paint (Black Sapphire Metallic) and was delivered on 5 August 2011. Only the front bumper was painted once due to stone chips. The car has a few subtle modifications like a set of H&R springs and an N55 centre muffler. Just a very neat untouched 1M with attractive mileage and, according to the owner, in top condition. Always neatly maintained at the dealer as evidenced by the BMW printout and, like all BMW 1M delivered cars, nice and full of options.

Our opinion

With a 1M, all you have to do is look at the accelerator and it goes. That's what you get when you cram the hardware of an M3 into a shorter body. The Twin Turbo engine already has a lot of torque at low revs, so as an M3 E92 driver you'll have a tough time keeping up with the 1M. A 1M is actually the (real) successor to the E30 M3 and the predecessor to the M2. Yet it feels a lot more special because of its quirky character, hydraulic steering, manual transmission, special body and, of course, low production numbers. They don't get made like this anymore, unfortunately.

About the seller

Stefan has been a car enthusiast for years and could now afford a nice car. A correct 1M is not easy to find partly due to the fact that many 1Ms are not in the condition you want as an enthusiast. This car he bought was(is) in top condition and bought partly for fun touring and if possible with little depreciation. However, he likes the car so much that the car is only used very sporadically so that it remains in top condition. The seller has enjoyed it a lot, yet the car sits idle too often. The car deserves someone who will drive it more, according to the seller. And then he immediately has an excuse to buy something new again....
