About this Collectable
Bentley Arnage 6.8 V8 Red Label
The Arnage was launched in 1998, when Bentley was still part of the Vickers Group along with Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Shortly afterwards, Volkswagen took over the Bentley and Rolls-Royce factories. However, the rights to use the ‘Rolls-Royce’ brand were not held by Vickers, but by the engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce, which granted the usage rights for cars to BMW. Volkswagen could therefore only use the brand name for a limited period. In 1998, a major battle ensued between BMW and VW over ownership of Rolls-Royce and Bentley. BMW threatened to stop supplying their engines if VW won. Volkswagen's response was to adapt the old 6.75-litre pushrod engine with 16 valves from the (Mulsanne) Turbo R for the Arnage bodywork. Bentley cited customer demand as the driving force behind the return to the old (now iconic) 6.75-litre engine with two valves per cylinder for the Red Label.
The Arnage is named after the place on the Circuit de la Sarthe, better known as the circuit where the 24 Hours of LeMans is held every year and where Bentley has scored victories (6x) in the past. Its sister model, the Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph, was discontinued in favour of the Rolls-Royce Phantom after the takeover of Rolls-Royce by BMW in 2002. Compared to the Arnage from the 1999 model year, the Arnage Red Label (recognisable by the red Bentley emblem on the bonnet and wheels) had a lowered floor in the rear, creating more space for rear passengers. At the same time, the fuel tank was increased to 100 litres and many other changes were made to make the body stiffer. Finally, the Alpine navigation system with fold-out monitor and parking aid were now also standard, and the front axle was also revised to cope with the increased power.
6.75-litre engine
For the 2000 model year, the 6.75-litre V8 engine (which by then had been in production in various forms for 41 years) based on that of its predecessor (Bentley Turbo RT) was used for the Arnage Red Label. Maximum power was increased to 405bhp (already at 4100rpm) and maximum torque to a whopping 830Nm available as early as 2100rpm. ZF's five-speed automatic transmission also had to give way to GM's 4L80E four-speed automatic transmission, as only it could handle the high torques.....
The Arnage Red Label offered here started life on 25 January 2001 in Germany and was delivered by Auto Becker in Germany. After one year, the car was brought to the Netherlands by the company Hessing which, like Auto Becker, specialised in exclusive automobiles.
The last private owner owned the car for several years and left it as collateral with the car company. The car is now owned by the car company and may go to a new enthusiast.
Our opinion
The Arnage Red label really is something special. Another genuine Bentley without VW parts with classic technology. Plenty of luxury and yet huge speed potential. Despite its weight, this Bentley goes to 100 in just over 6 seconds and its top speed is tuned to 250kmh. A fantastic touring car with unprecedented comfort and space and one of the last of its kind with this famous engine!
Equipment
The Arnage is equipped with the following extras, among others:

Modifications

Remarks
This Arnage is in very good condition. Both the metallic paint and the leather and walnut, are undamaged. The car has normal signs of use and we recommend a service after purchase. 2 sensors indicate a fault on oil and airbag. Engine runs nicely so probably a sensor fault. The more than 154,000km can be proven through RDW counter report, the service booklet and the Carfax report. The Carfax report indicates no known damage history either. The car does have a 1 on the license plate and the right rear mudguard has been sprayed at some point in the past (nicely sprayed on the door, of course).
