About this Collectable
Alfa 75 1.8 SAVALI
The Alfa 75 entered the market in 1985, 75 years after the Alfa 24 HP, Alfa Romeo's first in-house model, and was technically based on the Alfa Romeo Alfetta. The bodywork also borrowed its lines from the Nuova Giulietta. Once again, it received rear-wheel drive, the engine was placed at the front and the gearbox and clutch at the rear (trans-axle). This resulted in a perfect weight distribution that, combined with the spirited engines and sublime handling, gave a very sporty driving experience. Remarkably, the 75 was the last Alfa Romeo to be developed entirely in-house, the 75 is therefore considered the last full-blooded Alfa Romeo. The four-cylinder carburettor engines of the Alfa 75 were a 1570 cc with 110 hp, a 1779 cc with 120 hp and a 1962 cc with 130 hp. In 1988, the 1.8 engine was replaced by the 1.8 IE with injection system and in 1989 the Alfa Romeo SZ was introduced which was technically mechanically based on the 75.
Unfortunately, both van Lingen brothers are no longer among us but SAVALI, an abbreviation of the name Sam van Lingen, was always highly regarded in the Alfa tuning and racing world. With their knowledge, special parts and roller bench, down in the basement of the dealership in Houten, they conjured great performance from the already smooth Alfa Romeo engines. Such was the case with this Alfa 75, which was originally delivered in the Netherlands (Alfa dealer Rijssen) in 1986 (just before Alfa Romeo was bought by Fiat) with a 1779 cc with 120 hp and, compared to other 75s (if they still exist anyway), still looks great. Around 2020, the car was fully restored and repainted. This has been done really great and also the bottom like new. The engine is a SAVALI tuned 1.8 carburettor that runs very nicely and is fast. The tuning was fitted by Bert Meijer. As far as we know, the car also has a limited slip differential. During the restoration, the car was modified to the latest facelift such as sideskirts, latest interior update etc. Car has a working steel sunroof, which is quite unique.
Our opinion
The Alfa 75 was actually one of the first Alfa cars that was also regularly used as a lease car. The quality was considerably better than the models before it, which is why quite a few 75s were delivered in the Netherlands. Like most cars from the 80s, very few remain. How nice it is then that we can auction a very neat, rust-free 75 that not only looks great, but has also been SAVALI taken in hand. Normally, tuning doesn't really add value to a car, but a SAVALI (for those fast things, you have to go to Sam van Lingen) is really something special.

Remarks
This Alfa 75 is in very clean condition. The car was completely painted at some point in the past and the bottom too is still like new. Rims, interior, everything still looks picobello. Recently, the odometer broke down and needs a new chip. The electric windows also go heavy, a known ailment. In 2021, maintenance was done for almost €3200,- and in 2022 the starter motor was overhauled. In the meantime, the car has hardly been driven, but it started immediately after the winster stop for the photo shoot!
Recent maintenance history
The maintenance history of this Alfa 75 is as follows:
Unfortunately, all ‘paper’ history was lost with the previous owner. However, the car does have a logical NAP which makes the odometer reading plausible. The current owner has put a lot of effort into tracing history. Information and stories from previous owners have created a nice story of this.

2022 - 139,312km - Starter motor revision Alfa specialist Kluit

About the seller
The seller is an enthusiastic youngtimer enthusiast and couldn't resist this gem when he was offered it. He bought the car because his first car was also an Alfa 75 and subsequently had a lot of technical improvements done to it by Alfa specialist Kluit in Steenderen. As the car is hardly ever used and he wants to thin down his fleet a bit, he decided to auction the Alfa through The Collectables.
